With shorter hospital stays, outpatient surgical procedures, and individuals living longer with chronic health ailments, the day-to-day needs of sick and injured loved ones is falling upon family members and friends. Those tasks require a vast amount of energy, flexibility, perseverance, strength, and courage. According to the National Alliance on Caregiving, over 65 million Americans care for sick, disabled and elderly family members and friends. 42 million of them are juggling work, family, and caregiving. Furthermore, over 13 million of them are doing so from a distance. But, who's providing a life preserver to help those caregivers navigate around the accompanying stress, overwhelm, and potetial burn-out?
In this episode, we'll meet back with Rae-Lynn Ziegler to tap her in-depth understanding of identifying and alleviating stressors during such difficult life journeys. Her "out of the box" approaches use practical tools that are akin to a life preserver for long-distance caregiving. Her first-hand experiences with her own mother complement the expertise she brings to the table, as an author and occupational therapist.
Anxiety and guilt can override peace and subsequently, diminish hope. "The one you are caring for needs to feel connected to you, and the world around them -- to feel your essence of love," Rae-Lynn Ziegler says. Join us as we create a long-distance road map to connect and love one another through the holidays and beyond.
