    http://www.peta.org/

Jenni James is counsel for the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals Foundation. Through lawsuits, support for new legislation, and other legal efforts, she pushes authorities to create and enforce local, state, and federal laws designed to help captive animals who are used and abused in theme parks and circuses. Her many victories include keeping a cruel bull run out of California; persuading the Oakland, California, City Council to ban bullhooks (weapons used to beat elephants into performing); and getting Lolita, the lone orca at the Miami Seaquarium, listed as a member of a protected species under the Endangered Species Act. She is also an experienced wildlife rescuer and has helped hundreds of stranded seals, sea lions, otters, and other marine mammals off the coast of California.

    For Immediate Release:
    January 11, 2016

PETA President Ingrid Newkirk released the following statement in response to reports that Ringling Bros. plans to retire the performing elephants in May: 18 months earlier than announced. Years of living in shackles, held immobile on concrete floors, has left many elephants lame and sick.

Danielle Daals Takes the "Living Like Lolita in a Bathtub" challenge.

    in Entertainment

Danielle writes,  "In February 2016 I will be leaving my family for the first time ever and travelling half way round the world to Miami to spend 30 days in a bath tub outside Miami Seaquarium in the hope it will bring worldwide attention to Lolita’s suffering. Upon my arrival I will be met by Animal Activists Network who will be hosting me and supporting me with everything I need for this event. During this challenge I will be simulating Lolita’s life as much as I can. I will experience the same feelings of captivity, separation from my family, boredom and stress that Lolita has had to endure every day for the last 45 years!
After doing all I could for Lolita from the comfort of my own home I still had this overwhelming need to do more for her. It’s a feeling I find hard to describe to other people but signing petitions and emailing letters to Palace Entertainment just weren’t cutting it! I had this lump in my throat when I would think of her and her awful capture, what she must be feeling and what her family went through! Some people would say that’s anthropomorphism (the attribution of human traits, emotions and intentions to non-human entities) but I call it empathy and compassion for another living being. To try and overcome this need I eventually came up with the idea to live in a bath tub for a month. I got the idea from some PETA activists who spent a day in a bath for a demonstration as well as from every captive cetacean demonstration I had seen online, as they all had the analogy of an orca or dolphin in a bath tub. I knew it would have to be longer than a day so as to gain as much attention for Lolita as possible. I came up with a month (30days) as it was an even number and sounded better than a few weeks.
The hardest part about doing this is that I will be leaving behind my husband and two year old son.

Live:Midnight lover Bro Blue featuring Roy Panton on Friday night Party

    in Music

Roy Panton & Yvonne Harrison's new song "When It's Right"
Roy Panton & Yvonne Harrison's new song "When It's Right" Ska, Rocksteady and Reggae legends Roy Panton & Yvonne Harrison releases their new single "When It's Right". Roy Panton came up at a time in Jamaican music when it was changing from the local R&B to the edgy, harder and shuffling sound of ska. As such he was a pioneer and also a popular act in the early to mid 1960's. As was so popular for a time, he shared vocal duties in duo combinations with other upcoming stars like Millie Small, Cornel Campbell, Patsy Todd and Eric 'Monty' Morris'. But mainly he was a vocalist on his own, having possibly his biggest success with 'Endless Memory'. The list of great recordings is one of those impressive stories of a successful Jamaican music industry and creative flow: 'Mighty Ruler', 'Beware Rudie', Control Your Temper', 'Good Man'; 'Lolita', 'Run Old Man', 'We'll Meet' with Millie, and on and on it goes. But Panton got out of the business too early, he came back briefly and then it seemed he was gone for good forty years ago. Not so. Some years back he was rediscovered, got back to a scene hungry for 'vintage' acts and timeless music, and has made appearances lately in Los Angeles and Mexico, with probably a lot more to come. Thanks to Roy & Yvonne, Carlton Hines, Teacher & Mr T, and Steve Barrow.
