    On October 9th, 2000 Liysa Swart shot and killed her husband Chris Northon after 4 years of abuse. She spent 12 years in Coffee Creek Correctional Facility. She was released in October 2012. She is speaking out against domestic violence, the limitations of Oregon laws and the marginalization of victims.

    Liysa's comment after the show: "I enjoyed speaking with you and will continue to support you and speak about the plight of the Nigerian children who are branded witches and the DV victims.   I wish I could offer something more immediate to the victims in Nigeria than just talking about policy change.  Nigerian mothers should be very vocal in teaching their son's that it is wrong to hurt women and children. "

    Liysa Swart was a successful businesswoman who spent 12 years in prison after killing her abusive husband. She now is an advocate and educator for DV issues.


    She speaks publicly about what could have prevented this tragedy, why the laws in Oregon contribute to the CDC rating Oregon as the second worst state in the nation for violence against women, and what concrete changes we can make to improve this situation.She will also discusses the hidden epidemic of DV in all echelons of society--including upper-income families, and how stereotypes harm these victims.  Filmmaker Delphine Criscenzo created a short (12 minute) film that discusses Liysa’s situation.

    In 2011, after finding herself, she launched her one-woman show in Milwaukee.
