The Force Is Strong with the Podvader

    in Sports

The Sports Gal Pal, Ramona Rice, is joined by her podcasting mentor Jay Soderburg (aka the Podvader) but Jay brought along his wife Benay (Queen Podme) to the show as well. They had a frank conversation about balancing real life with the love of sports and how marriage is work.

Here are some of the highlights:

Queen Podme does not share Podvader's obession of the New England Patriots
She does recognize that Podvader has influenced their kids in sports but mainly positive
She uses Sunday football days as days to still spend as a family - despite not wanting to actively watch football

Podvader and the Sports Gal Pal also discuss some upcoming events on Blog Talk Radio - including her two-a-day series with all of Podvader's Next Fan Up Superfans.

Also, the Sports Gal Pal talks about why kids growing up is a good and bad thing (the moms will totally get it) and why the Little League World Series is worth watching.

Changing The World--Live With The Rayfords

    in Lifestyle

None of us can change the world by ourselves, but with a change in our attitudes, we can make a difference, one person at a time.

Of course, Believers who have an established relationship with Jesus Christ understand--the one person at a time concept--hopefully better than most--but if we concentrate on changing self first and reaching out to others to show them, not tell them, how a different attitude change their lives and the lives of others.

Showing kindness--even to people who may not deserve it is one way we can change attitudes. It's hard to stay mad at someone who is kind to you.

Showing compassion--when other people have situations to deal with, we can be more compassionate about them than being judgmental. We've all made mistakes--some more costly than others, but the great thing about mistakes is--if we learn from them--and we should--we become better people.

Loving others--even the unloveable--gets their notice every time. And when we finish showing them love, share the love of Jesus Christ, gettting them to understand just how important they are to Him.

We can do this--change the world--making a difference and a better place for all to live and thrive--one person at a time.

If you'd like to start by reading a good book, please browse the catalog of books by Mary M. Hall-Rayford on amazon.com http://viewAuthor.at/maryglobal .

Thanks for listening and don't forget to tune in next week at the same time, on BlogTalk Radio, Thursdays at 5:00 EST. Remember God loves you and we love you, too!

  • United States Incarceration Industry Exposed/ Public Exploitation

    in Current Events

Between October 30 and November 2,2015,  the United States will release 6,000 federal prisoners in accordance to new guidelines that went into effect November 2014 when an independent federal commission proposed shorter sentences for drug offenders. The result of the commission's decision that -just because someone was sentenced to a long prison term during the peak of the tough-on-crime era, he shouldn't automatically have to serve more time than he'd get if he were sentenced today. Of the 6000 to be released, only 4,000 are US citizens; about 2,000 of the prisoners scheduled for release are unauthorized immigrants, who will be detained and deported immediately after they're released from federal prison and legal immigrants

In January 2014, the Commission indicated it  would reduce the drug sentencing guidelines and in March 2014, the Attorney General supported new guidelines being applied to on-going drug cases. As many as 46,000 prisoners are eligible to apply for shorter sentences under the change.

In 2011, Congress reduced the sentencing disparity between "crack" and powder cocaine and the Sentencing Commission decided to allow current prisoners sentenced for crack cocaine to apply for shorter sentences. The United States incarcerates more people than any other country in the world. Ten thousand people are released from prison every week, most of them from state prisoners.  Typically, the federal government releases 55,000 prisoners a year. It will be interesting to see how the federal criminal justice system will help ex-inmates reenter society.
