Stop Child Abuse Now (SCAN) - 1231

    in Self Help

Tonight's special guest is Debra Monk from Enfield, New Hampshire, a survivor of childhood sexual abuse from multiple perpetrators over several years throughout her early childhood and into her early teens. She's now become an anti-abuse advocate who's now writing a series of children's books addressing a topic that's close to her heart. "Most of my abusers were direct or close family members," Debra says. She explains the new book series for children touches on the tough but important topic of family violence and abuse, and what that might look like through the eyes and perspective of a child. That's because Debra eventually came to understand that there was a systematic cycle of abuse within her family that had already been going on for many generations. "I'll address family violence, such as domestic and intimate partner violence, sibling abuse, sexual abuse, incest, neglect and physical abuse. Abuse and malnourishment can create patterns and characteristics that when, if not dealt with appropriately may cause repeated cycles or systems of family violence and abuse to occur later on and well into their adulthood lives." Debra's published before. Her work "A Journey of Poetry from an Adult Survivor of Sexual Abuse" is available as an e-book and author Caroline De Chavigny included Debra's missive in her book, "Letter to a Monster." Debra says her mission and goal is to create positive change that reduces the risk for violence in already broken and volatile homes.

RYAN ROCKS IT! with COLEMAN R. BRICE, singer-songwriter-recording Artist

    in Radio

Ryan Rocks It! with friend Colie Brice Monday, November 23 RD at 5:30 PM.  I have known this awesome and multi talented Man for many years now.  I first heard Colie perform with Jason Lusardi aka Jay Walker, bass player.  Colie and Jay played together for many years in Colie's band "Folie Brice New Age Blues Experience".  I like this qote of Colie's,  "Experiences Compose the Symphony of Life", so true.   Colie has recorded over 30 something albums, some on mjajor labels with big budgets, others recorded at home DY style on indie labels.  Recording highlights range from three elaborately produced albums with Phantom's Opera which at on etime featured Michael Romeo (Symphony X) and later Karl Cochran of Ace Frehley (KISS) and Joe Lynn Turner's (Rainbow, Deep Purple, Yngwie Malmsteen).  Colie will tell you that he was stubbornly persistent in pursuing a big time music carer, but after tripping out at a Grateful Dead Show, he started pursuing a more personal creative direction he called the "LUNA MUSE" principle and started branding his own kind of music he loosely called New Age Blues.  To that end, in 1997, Colie's Solo debut New Age Blues was accepted in teh 40 TH Annyual Gramy Nomination  Entry List in several cataegories including Top Instrumental for "17G (Tribute to Jerry."

As a stage musician, Colie has performed at diverse venues ranging from The Stone Pony in Asbury Park, to the Roxy Theater in Hollywood, California and many points inbetween.  Colie shared the bill with an scletic variety of notable acts such as Dick Dale, Layonne Homes ( Jon Bon Jovi Solo Band), Juggling Suns, Tony Levin, Dick Manitoba, Marshall Tucker, Skid Row, Jill Sobule and Southside and the Asbury Jukes among many others.

Please go to my fb page for mor information on Colie Brice.

We can stop it together: Building Strong RHY Partnerships

    in Education

Providers of outreach, prevention, safe havens and counseling services for runaway and homeless youth are keenly aware that many of the young people who seek their services have witnessed domestic violence and/or have been victims of relationship violence, and/or child maltreatment or neglect in their homes. In many communities, there is a lack of interaction between RHY and DV/SA programs that creates a gap in information and services between the two. By sharing our knowledge and teaching one another about the populations served by each community, outreach outcomes and service provision to those in need can be greatly enhanced.  How can we do this? The panelists from MANY and Bridge Over Troubled Waters, discuss ways to close this gap and shares promising practices to enhance collaborations.

Stephen's list of things to be grateful for:

    Room Temperature Quantum Entanglement

Growing Vocal Chords in the Lab

How Are We to Inject Gratitude into the Spiritual Void Thanksgiving Has Become?

    in Spirituality

How grateful and exicted are turkeys for Thanksgiving to you think? :)...

We've rather largely lost our way, bit by bit, with a myopic fascination with food as the defining moment of what now consititues our Thanksgiving haven't we?

But, this deficit of heart is beginning to take its toll in the sensibilites of more and more people as they reflect how unfilling this holiday can end up being at the end of the day when our guests can't leave quickly enough after the food has been eaten.

I've been in some homes where the feast is more like an in-home fast food feast and in a blink of the eye the cooks are abandoned, the relationship time together goes up in a puff of tail--pipe smoke as the cars speed away to the malls. Anti-climatic, indeed!

Days of preparation. Feasting. And everyone sticking their face into their cell phones and rushing off to the nearest and biggest sale of their desires for getting something for a deal. And there the chefs and company experience an anticlimatic event.

The heart of visiting and sharing our company, stories, and being drifts away from the hearth of our homes and enters the competition for goods. Is that becomeing an unappealing feeling-experience for you... more empty, dissapointing, useless than something to celebrate and something more along the lines of a hefty investment of time with a disproprtionate return (ROI sucks)?

When the preparation far outweighs the event, it fails to excite and satisfy in the same deligthful manner. Let's visit a warm hearth together and consider ways we can return our families to a Thanksgiving that feeds our belly and our Souls!

Join us, Sharon Quinn and Will Gable

Animal Hoarding: Signs, Causes, and Solutions

    in Pets

When it comes to hoarding, what comes to mind for most of us, are the documentary shows, showing people with severely cluttered homes, piled high with clothing, papers, and a myriad of other items most people would consider, junk.  But were you also aware that there is a such thing as animal hoarding?  In this unfortunate situation, the former mentioned circumstances can still exist, but in addition to those, there are animals involved.  Many times, there are dozens of animals living in unsanitary conditions with lack of proper medical care and insufficient food and fresh water.  How do these situations arise?  Are the signs always obvious?  What can we do to help the humans and animals caught up in these situations?  Be sure to join hosts J and D, Saturday, November 21st as they tackle these questions and more on The Missy Show.
