I NEVER UNDERSTAND WHY THERE'S THIS "BATTLE" BETWEEN WHOSE LIGHT SKIN AND WHOSE DARK SKIN. IT'S THAT ONGOING DEBATE/ARGUMENT/BULLSHIT I KEEP HEARING. I WANT TO TALK TO YOU ALL ABOUT MY OPINION ON THE MATTER AS A DARK SKIN WOMAN. HAVE YOU HAD THIS DISCUSSION WITH PEOPLE BEFORE? HAVE YOU BEEN PICKED ON FOR THE COLOR OF YOUR SKIN? WHY IN THE AFRICAN AMERICAN COMMUNITY DO WE HAVE THIS SELF HATE AND HATE TOWARDS OUR BROTHERS AND SISTERS? THESE ARE MY QUESTIONS THAT I PLAN ON TACKLING AND HOPEFULLY ANSWERING!
IF YOU HAVEN'T LISTENED TO YESTERDAY'S SEGMENT, DEFINITELY DO SO!!
Blacks have long been at odds with each beginning with the days of ensalvement. Back then they were referred to as house niggers also unfondly referrred to as Uncle Toms, and the field niggers. Join Kuttizent and Neci as they discuss the steroypical differences between dark skin black and light skin black and the inner race war between the two as well as the Willie Lynch Syndrom
Tonight we'll be discussing some issues surrounding light skin people such as the popular saying "You think you all that cause you light skin!" foolishness.
Your dark skinned attracted to light skinned people, does that make you less black? Why do we view light skin as beautiful instead of dark skin? If a brutha only wants to date light skin woman and he is dark, would he be wrong? Is it true that dark skin people are stronger than light skin people? Why are you attracted to light or dark aren't they still black?
So we'll be responding to a lot of white supremacist talking points from The Great LIght Skin Debate from Mix World United.
That is going to take up most of the show and we might not get to the news.
We'll have Ricky from Americans United Again with us and he's darn good.
"Light skin v.s. Dark skin"
"Stereotypes such as Light Skin Vs. Dark Skin within the Black community are cancerous, dangerous, and shape how we view ourselves and our people. Fortunately, we can solve this problem by teaching and mentally reshaping how we’ve been trained to think and behave"
Ben "Teflon" Walton
Have you ever been told that you're cute to be dark skinned? Are you treated differently because you have lighter skin? Can the self hatred stop within the Black community? If you answered yes to either of these questions join us as we discuss the war between dark and light skin in the Black community
JOIN YOUR HOST SOLAR MIND AND O-GOD AND SISTER RENEE AS WE DEAL WITH THE RECENT DR UMAR JOHNSON SCANDAL. ALSO DARK SKIN VS LIGHT SKIN, IS IT STILL A MAJOR ISSUE IN OUR BLACK COMMUNITY? WHY IS IT THAT WE ALWAYS FIND SOMETHING WRONG WITH OUR DARKER SKINNED LEADERS!! WHAT WILL IT TAKE FOR US TO OVERCOME THIS? WE ARE TAKING THE PLATFORM TO THE NEXT LEVEL WITH THE SISTERHOOD!! TONIGHT AT 9PM EST!! BE IN THE BUILDING !!
As much as we would prefer not to discuss it, skin tone complications of the past still afflict the psyche of present-day America, according to an article by TheGrio. And, to be sure, the studies the article cites don’t isolate the issue to the black community alone. Rather, the studies report that the issue is pervasive in mainstream America as well.
Even employers seem to prefer the lighter-skin blacks among us:
A 2006 University of Georgia study showed that employers prefer light-skinned black men to dark-skinned men, regardless of their qualifications. We found that a light-skinned black male can have only a Bachelor’s degree and typical work experience and still be preferred over a dark-skinned black male with an MBA and past managerial positions,” said Matthew S. Harrison in 2006, then a doctoral student in applied industrial organizational psychology at Georgia. The study, which sampled over 12,000 black women imprisoned in North Carolina between 1995 and 2009, showed that light-skinned women were sentenced to 12 percent less time behind bars than their darker-skinned counterparts. The results also showed that having light skin reduces the actual time served by 11 percent.
Dark Skin, Light Skin, Straight Hair, Nappy Hair: Do Black Men Reinforce A Color Caste System For Wo
Viola Davis, last nights Emmy winner for Best Actress In Dramatic Series, gave a historic dramatic speech in which she quoted Harriet Tubman, and thanked the writers and actresses that enabled her to "cross the line" and win an honor formerly accessible only to white women. Previously, when actress Lupita Nyong'o won an Oscar for her role in Twelve Years A Slave, she expressed many of the same sentiments. Is color and hair texture still an issue when it comes to defining womanhood? In chapter four of The Female Solution we discuss the politics behind how women define themselves. It comes down to a battle of genetics. Whose physical traits represent the good people, the smart people, the pretty people? We know of the white doll/ black doll experiment, in which little black girls, when given a choice, selected the white doll as the one that was good, smart, and pretty, and said the black doll was bad, dumb and ugly. How do we talk about that painful reality in African American culture, so we can face and correct the widespread, self-perpetuated color caste system that leaves so many African Americans emotionally scarred?
