There is a major question in the black community about whether or not physical punishment is a viable option for disciplining children. The practice has been around since slavery and is so ingrained into black parents, that it isn't viewed as something that is problematic but rather a necessary component to parenting. In her Book Beating Black Kids, author Asadah Kirkland, discusses why black parents have got to change their thinking about this tradition and gives effective alternatives for parents who may be uninformed about how to be effective at parenting in a way that doesn't involve corporal punishment. Asadah Kirkland is the featured guest on the show. Please call in and share your views. WE WILL ALSO BE DISCUSSING THE LATEST IN THE NYPD BROOKLYN POLICE SHOOTING. CALL IN 347-215-8933

Meet us for an online prayer meeting as we petition heaven for the families and victims of police violence and government corruption every week. Let us pray together for those in authority over us, pray for the peace of Jerusalem, and pray that we be counted worthy to escape the evil days ahead, as God directed, in Jesus' name.
Please pray for Gina Burns and Jeremy Smith, Holly Alston and Terrell Scott, Johnny Strozier, Diana Sprouse and her son Mark, Fred Hayes and Damion Hayes, inmates in solitary confinement, inmates and their families, protesters, police officers, officials over cities, counties, states, and the federal government, the United Nations, and human rights advocates everywhere.
Hi Mary.. Thanks so much for all the work you've done and continue to do. Tomorrow, Robert Kirkland's case against deputies at the Boulder County jail will begin at the U.S. District Courthouse in Denver. Attorney David Lane will be representing Kirkland. I was hoping you might be able to mention the case on the radio the next time you're on air and you see an appropriate time to bring it up. Thanks so much for being so kind and considerate. Black lives matter for sure, and you have treated Kirkland and me like ALL lives matter. Thank you.

If you understand how HIV is transmitted, how it can be prevented, and the reality of living wih HIV today, you can use this knowledg to take care of your health and the health of others. You will also help ensure that everyone living with HIV is treated fairly, and with respect and understanding.
November's show will feature the book, One Family's AIDS, by host, J'son M. Lee. One Family’s AIDS is the story of Gene Alexander McCoy - a young, educated African-American man who finds himself in a race for time to make peace with his family and God upon being diagnosed with HIV. The story, told from four different perspectives, chronicles Gene's life as he confronts such issues as HIV/AIDS, family, abandonment and homophobia. With the help of his over-bearing mother, a nurturing grandmother, and an uncle who doesn't feel comfortable talking about Gene's sexuality or disease, we learn the complexities of love and relationships, the damaging results of fear and shame, and how the relentless quest for the truth ultimately leads us back to each other.
Our guest host will be Levon Putney, News Anchor/Reporter at WCBS 880 News.
Since the suspension of professional football player Adrian Peterson stemming from charges that he abused his four year old son by whipping him with a tree switch, the debate has been ongoing as to the fairness of this decision. Proponents of corporal punishment say it is a cultural misunderstanding; being "disciplined" with a "switch" is a common southern practice, and most black families, it is argued, use this method of punishment all the time. Others call it child abuse. Asadah Kirkland, author of Beating Black kids, examines whether corporal punishment of any kind is emotionally healthy for children or does it only create violent adults?

In this episode:
Tony will be joined by guests Pastor Geoff Kirkland (Christ Fellowship Bible Church, St. Louis) and Evangelist Robert Gray (Cross Country Evangelism). The conversation will focus on the trios recent open-air preaching efforts on the campuses of St. Louis Community College--Meramec and Southern Illinois University--Edwardsville.
Tragically, on both campuses the men ran into campus representatives of CRU (formerly Campus Crusade for Christ). Both of the "campus leaders" served as examples of just how far the once-evangelistic campus ministry has fallen, from its founding by Evangelist Bill Bright. Now home with the Lord, Bright would not recognize the ministry he founded to reach college students with the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Today, CRU is more a representative of American Evangelicalism than it is the Body of Christ.
On today's program, you will hear the audio of a conversation with one of the "campus leaders."
Also on the program: Tony, Rich, and Chris will answer the question from a student at Kansas State University. What do you do when the perverted pelagian, Jed Smock, comes to your campus to "preach?"

"Spare the rod, spoil the child" is the Biblical quote commonly used to justify the use of corporal punishment. But the author of "Beating Black Kids", sister Asadah Kirkland, explains some things that may help parents re-think that old time philosophy. What are we really teaching our children when we hit them? What are we saying about ourselves? What behavior will we see them manifest later on in life as a result of being hit as a child as a behavior control technique? And what happens when parents disagree about the use of corporal punishment? Is the one who hits seen as the "bad guy?" Is the one who doesn't hit seen as "weak?" When does "spanking" become "child abuse?" Who decides when punishment is too harsh? How should parents discuss this issue and what should they base their decisions on? Is disagreement about spanking or hitting children a deal breaker for couples who are considering marriage? Should it be?
