People usually only reach out only when they need help or there is a crisis but we here Dream Catchers we believe in community support, Peer to peer Support, and Systems change Advocacy and that there are people everywhere with and without disabilities who can learn a lot from survivors!
I met someone who doesn’t have a disability who is down on their luck. I invited them to come to our last Brain Injury Support group meeting and they came. They wound up telling people all over the community about what we are doing and in turn others started helping out and it turned into a beautiful thing!!!! Tonight we will be talking about building up Community services for everyone in need with is a true act of kindness indeed!
We could work together in a food bank or offer support in many ways but one of the harshest realities I have witnessed in the disability community is that disabilities segregate and separate from one another.
We all are fighting for the same pot of money the same rights under the ADA so why not all of us fight together on the same team for all people with disabilities and be 56,000,000 and for an unbeatable power house team of survivors that just simply believes that discrimination of any type is wrong!!!!
The words of a new song by Paul McCartney called Everybody out there motivated me to come up with it as part of my shows title for my show tonight.) Hey, Everybody out there. You know what it's like. If you haven't got a life, When you haven't got a life, Hey, do you want to make a difference? Well, stand in the line If you haven't got the time I can give you some of mine There, but for the Grace of God go you and I We're the brightest objects in the sky There, but for the Grace of God go you and I Do some good before you say goodbye
Through time their have been people who talk the talk but don’t walk the walk when it comes to caring, compassion, and a new life or about the real cost and challenge to survivors of TBI and aneurism survivors around the World but giving us a voice and standing with and for the survivors that is where the pavement meets the road! Do you know what it’s like, I can’t hear you, I can’t hear you!!!
Tonight let’s talk about survivors reaching out to other survivors and showing the care and compassion that it will take to make a difference in a way that only one survivor to another can provide and by truly stepping up to the plate and helping those who feel disfranchised and abandoned around the World! Lets make a difference in the lives of Millions so talk to me!!!
Tonight will do just that stand up and take the place of people who can’t due to their Injuries and help make the entire World a much better place for everyone now!
LesPaul Morgan on the Brain Injury Radio.
This week LesPaul is Meeting up with BIR founder, Craig Sicilia (meeting for the first time!) at the APRIL (Association of Programs for Rural Independent living) Conference, in Tulsa Oklahoma.
The Empowerment Zone was created to help empower people with disabilities to be able to live, Love, Work just like anyone else. We aren’t asking for a hand out but instead a hand up and to be treated as equals in society and that means people with disabilities living a self directed and self determent life!
For far too long people with disabilities have lived in the back ground but with the Americans with Disability Act (ADA) we have laws and regulations designed to provide equal access for all so get ready to ne encouraged, and Inspired because we have some great shows planned so get ready to touch the future because the Empowerment Zone has arrived so join me and an exhibiting array of guests and topics!
I’m a certified peer support specialist for people with disabilties and a multiple brain injury and aneurysm survivor as well as a survivor of several related operations and procedures. Together, I hope we can bridge the gap to inclusion for everyone with all types of disabilities and that you will be willing to call in and share your stories and ideas on The Empowerment Zone with Les Paul!
I work for a Center for Independent Living which are community-based, cross-disability, non-profit organizations that is designed and operated by people with disabilities. CILs are unique in that they operate according to a strict philosophy of consumer control, wherein people with all types of disabilities directly govern and staff the organization. Centers for Independent Living Provide:
Information and Referral
Individual and Systems Advocacy
Independent Living Skills Training
The Empowerment Zone is a place for all people with any type of disability to come and learn and find common ground and solutions to help empower people with disabilities to find their inner strengths.
This is a positive show based on the IL philosophy which is independent living for all people wishing to better their lives by learning to take charge of their destiny and living their dreams through the independent living movement. Two years ago I came up with the concept for the Empowerment Zone after also hosting on the brain injury radio network show Dream Catchers for over three years now as well.
Not only is the independent living movement very cool, but it’s a way of thinking differently with a disability with bold ideas and a brave new future using the core services of Iindependent Living. I want to first pay homage honor to our great military forces for which without them I truly believe our World would be in chaos and there would be no USA to fight for!!!! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for all you have done, all that you have given and all the lives that were lost in protection of our freedoms!!!!!
You know we the people with disabilities tend to have a major hang up!! Well I’m a person with a brain injury or I’m a person with down’s syndrome or I’m a person with this or that and in the mean time it’s as if we forget we are the human species with likes, Loves, Pains, and heart aches and that no matter what our ABILITY we tend to lock ourselves into the title of what ever happened to us and to HELL with everyone else!
I hate that picture and want to rip it down and set it on fire because people with disabilities whatever label we wear tend to isolate and congregate in the narrow scope of their label! ARE YOU AND I JUST A LABEL? I am going to say no!!!
Yes I am a multiple Brain Injury, Aneurism, and AVM survivor but I choose to stand on the promise that the hope of Tomorrow and the reality of Today will bring us together in a powerful and bold new way. So Unity and inclusion for all people with dis/ABILITIES is my Dream Catchers Dream much like Martin Luther King said it during the Civil Rights movement!
Make Inclusion is no Illusion in 2014 and beyond
Uniting disenfranchised survivors
Make it real
Crossing the isle
Living your dreams and forgetting the pain and heart ache
Can you develop a sixth sense or have premonition after TBI? Yes you can! Late the other night I decided to go to the 24 hour grocery store. The traffic was very light. I decided to take my dog bandit with me because he did not want to be alone. Once we were both in the car in the engine was running. I had a strange feeling come over me. The feeling of concern that if I wasn't very careful something could go very wrong
I started watching both sides of the road frequently as if something was out there and I had an annoying feeling that if I didn’t watch out, something could go very wrong. So I continued at about 15 mph below the speed limit, but nothing happened. As I headed home I still had that feeling when like a premonition all of a sudden I just dropped my speed almost to a stop, and lo and behold, there were two baby Dears standing facing my car and if I wouldn't have been going slow. I will surely hit both of them!
When you feel that your TBI has got you down and out and lonely. You need to start searching deep inside for your 6th sense because it felt like angels were looking out for bandit and I and the two beautiful little dears.
So tonight were going to talk about honing in on your sixth sense because personally I believe that God and angels are watching out for us, and even when we feel alone and hurting we are not alone! I believe they are watching listening out for us when we least expect it and I know it because I felt it very strongly!!!
Join me in the discussion and share your stories to tonight on dream catchers with Les Paul

Dream Catchers with Les Paul
Pastor Brad Morgan of New Life Beginnings Church in Pattison, TX shares about devine suddenlies and the forces trying to work against God.
In Acts 16:14-28 it says, "Now a certain woman named Lydia heard us. She was a seller of purple from the city of Thyatira, who worshiped God. The Lord opened her heart to heed the things spoken by Paul. And when she and her household were baptized, she begged us, saying, “If you have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come to my house and stay.” So she persuaded us. Now it happened, as we went to prayer, that a certain slave girl possessed with a spirit of divination met us, who brought her masters much profit by fortune-telling. This girl followed Paul and us, and cried out, saying, “These men are the servants of the Most High God, who proclaim to us the way of salvation.” This was an evil spirit mocking them. The scripture continued, "...But when her masters saw that their hope of profit was gone, they seized Paul and Silas and dragged them into the marketplace to the authorities. And they brought them to the magistrates ... Then the multitude rose up together against them; and the magistrates tore off their clothes and commanded them to be beaten with rods. And when they had laid many stripes on them, they threw them into prison, commanding the jailer to keep them securely. Having received such a charge, he put them into the inner prison and fastened their feet in the stocks. But at midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them.
The devil tries to control you to keep you down. God's suddenly delivered his believers. "Suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken; and immediately all the doors were opened and everyone’s chains were loosed."
When Neil Armstrong said the famous words, that’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind He was standing on the surface of the moon on the Apollo 11 mission.
It took the vision of many great scientists and inventors, and a lot of hard work, scientific discovery, and creation to develop a way to go to the moon and in a time, there is now well over 40 years ago with technology was not nearly as advanced.
Brain injury and disability need their ah-ha moment in history and say it’s their time to stand firm and plant our flag and say we have arrived to place a new understanding encouragement and hope of disability, a place where we can stand on her own strong and believe in ourselves a place I call Dream Catchers.
My vision my dream is a place where we can come together work and learn on new skills and develop a whole new life after injury! So join me tonight as we take a step forward in the name of humankind and develop new friendships and relationships here on Dream Catchers.
