How do you know you’ve made it big in Hollywood—we mean, really, really big? One measure would be when Denzel Washington stops over your house to help punch up your script. And for free, no less. So we can pretty much agree that Lee Daniels has arrived big time. In 2001, after an unlikely career that took him from nursing-agency owner to casting director to talent-agency owner, he produced Monster’s Ball, which won its star, Halle Berry, an Academy Award. Next he directed Precious, another Oscar darling, which snagged a statue for comedian Mo’Nique. Then came The Butler, co-starring Forest Whitaker and Oprah Winfrey, which had uncredited assistance behind the scenes from one of cinema’s more powerful voices. “Denzel and I are friends and he was helping me with the sctipt,” Lee tells us. “I think we joked around about what would you do if you were playing the character? But at the time he couldn’t do it because he was unavailable anyway. Denzel is a dear friend of mine and he helped me incredibly with the story.”
Ordinary men behind powerful people: Lee Daniels’ The Butler and The King’s Speech are our feature reviews this week while we also discuss superhero news and Prince Avalanche.

As director of the award-winning movie The Butler, Lee Daniels knew he had to show African-American families in the right light. He tells Keeping It Reel on BlogTalkRadio, that audiences will get something they're not always used to when they see the movie, "I have never seen black people that have been betrayed like this before. Now I'm showing blacks like we are rarely seen - loving, caring, going off to school, feelings that African-Americans feel."

There was a time when childhood was a period of innocence. Today, with the Internet sending graphic sexual images to every device at our fingertips, that childhood innocence is gone. Are we introducing too much sex too soon to our children? How is it affecting them? There is a scene inSpike Lee's controversial, new film Chiraq in which the lead Character, played by Nick,Cannon has a flashback to a childhood memory in which he walks in on his mother having sex. It gives some insight as to why he later has such disrespect for women. There is a reason why so many children are conceived without love or intention by parents. How do we reclaim innocence for our children and introduce sexuality to them with the wholesome spiritual understanding in a manner that is age appropriate? How dowe protect them from the emotional trauma of public images of too much sex too soon?
