God commands that, in the late spring of every year, a special day be observed (Leviticus 23:15-21). It is commonly called Pentecost, from the Greek pentekoste . The Jews refer to it in various ways. One is as Shavuot , meaning "Weeks," because the date of its observance is determined by counting a specific number from an earlier religious observance.
This devotional Bible study scheduled for Wednesday January 21, 2015 is based on Jeremiah 23:13-14. The prophet Jeremiah was distraught over the great damage false prophets were causing in Israel to the north and Judah to the south. The pseudo prophets Jeremiah alludes to in Jeremiah 23:13-14 were hypocrites who were great sinners at home but acted like saints in public. This kind of ministerial hypocrisy always has an adverse effect on God's people. It emboldens sinners to keep sinning and not to repent. It also depresses the faithful like Jeremiah who want nothing but God and a holy Church! All five radio programs scheduled for this week are based on Jeremiah 23 and will tackle the subject of False Prophets, their Ministerial Character and Nefarious Activities.

Fasting is beneficial whether you fast partially or fully.
One day fasts on a consisitaent basis will strengthen your spirit over time and give you the ability to discipline yourself for longer fasts.
Three day fasts with just water are a powerful way to see breakthroughs.
Fasts longer than three days should be done by people with more experience in fasting.
Long fasts are not recommended unless there is an emergency or if one is led by the Holy Spirit to do so.
A partial fast can include some food such as vegetables and can be done for long lengths.
Complete fasts consist of water only, and water is important to cleanse the system of toxins that are released through fasting.
The Holy Spirit will reveal to you when you need to fast.
A fasted lifestyle is a powerful lifestyle.

Protest poetry takes on many different forms, yet one aspect remains constant; this style of poetry aims to share a specific message about an issue that is important to the writer. Usually, these poems address social or political issues and are designed to spur dialogue and examination, release creative tension or frustration or in many instances, challenge the status quo on the particular issue or concern. For example, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., led a revolutionary nonviolent protest movement that called upon the nation to end the centuries-old racist and unjust treatment against African-Americans. Poets, before, during and after this era demonstrated through their work the requisite power and much-needed determination to call for long lasting change. More importantly, society still needs poets to draw attention to current and ongoing issues as well as to call the audience to action. So poets, call-in and share poetry or thoughts about issues that matter to you.
Alex Getachew, a noted community activist will join us live to provide commentary and share additional context for the discussion. So please join us for a stimulating evening of great poetry and dialogue!
