    in Spirituality

The topics of this show are based on Lakota Star Knowledge and may include viewing current events from the Ancient Lakota perspective. This show's objective is perpetuate peace among all people, as the foundation of all universes is based on "Mitakuye Oyas'in". The Lakota Star Knowledge definition of "Mitakuye Oyas'in" is that before you can be at peace with all the relatives throughout all universes, you must first have peace among all the relatives within your own inner universe. The mind, body, soul and emotions are all connected to each other. When you do your best in nurturing these four parts, you will establish peace within yourself. Only then are you able to be at peace with all creation around you.

Richard Thornton: Maya in America, The Untold Story of Ancient America

    in News

Maya in America is a new book that shows how the ancient Maya not only reached the shores of Florida and Georgia but had a thriving gold mining operation in the north Georgia mountains.

Author Richard Thornton is a Creek Indian architect, city planner, author and researcher into Native American history. His professional work in support of archaeologists began in college, when he received a fellowship to study Mesoamerican architecture and urban planning in Mexico. In 2004 he began carrying out research projects for Native American tribes that studied their cultural history. He is a founding member and newsletter editor of the People of One Fire, a national alliance of Native American scholars. In parallel, Richard has been then architect for the restoration of several hundred buidings dating back to 1746 throughout the Southeast. On his Caucasion side, he is a direct descendant of the first leader of the Georgia during the American Revolution, a Continental officer, and Creek Indian leaders, who were allies of the Patriots.

Several of his historic preservation projects were associated with personalities or events of national importance, such as the American Revolution, Civil War battlefields, the Great Locomotive Chase, the Rev. Sam Jones, and several famous Southern writers. In 2009, he was the architect for Oklahoma's Trail of Tears Memorial in Tulsa, OK.

AgriFest, Scouting, Valentine's Day Jump Up, and Other Traditions in the USVI

    in Culture

Every February, St. Croix hosts the largest agricultural festival in the Territory. The St. Croix Agricultural Fair, or AgriFest, is a colorful display of locally produced agricultural products, livestock, arts & crafts, & native cuisine. Taking place over 3 days, festival goers can taste, touch, & see everything to do with St. Croix agriculture.

The Boy Scouts of America in the USVI was served in the early 20th Century through National Council Direct Service. Then the troops later were added as the Virgin Island District in the Puerto Rico-Virgin Islands Council. During the late 1960s & early 1970s, Troop 152, sponsored by Saint Patrick's Church, Frederiksted, Saint Croix, formed a steel band of grammar-school-age Scouts that was managed by Vivian Bennerson. The band toured internationally.

The Scout Association of the British Virgin Islands operates as a branch of the United Kingdom Scout Association, as the British Virgin Islands' affiliation as a British Overseas Territory. The BVI Scout Oath and Law, & other Scouting requirements, closely follow that of the United Kingdom.

Jump Up, held 4 times yearly, is a "carnival like" cultural party held in the streets & along the boardwalk of Christiansted. Sponsored by the CRRA (Christiansted Restaurant & Retail Association), it has become one of the islands' favorite social events for both locals & visitors alike.

Friends of Virgin Islands National Park and the National Park Service will partner to present the Annual Folk Life Festival in celebration of Black History Month in February on St. John.
