Walking the Woods and the Water: In Patrick Leigh Fermor's footsteps from the Hook of Holland to the Golden Horn:
In 1933, the eighteen-year-old Patrick Leigh Fermor set out in a pair of hobnailed boots to chance and charm his way across Europe, "like a tramp, a pilgrim, or a wandering scholar." The books he later wrote about this walk, A Time of Gifts, Between the Woods and the Water, and the posthumous The Broken Road are a half-remembered, half-reimagined journey through cultures now extinct, landscapes irrevocably altered by the traumas of the twentieth century.
Aged eighteen, Nick Hunt read A Time of Gifts and dreamed of following in Fermor's footsteps. In 2011 he began his own "great trudge"—on foot all the way to Istanbul. He walked across eight countries, following two major rivers and crossing three mountain ranges. With only Fermor's books to guide him, he trekked some 2,500 miles through Holland, Germany, Austria, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria and Turkey.
His aim? To have an old-fashioned adventure. To slow down and linger in a world where we pass by so much, so fast. To discover for himself what remained of hospitality, kindness to strangers, freedom, wildness, adventure, the mysterious, the unknown, the deeper currents of myth and story that still flow beneath Europe's surface.
Gearing down for the Christmas holidays, Nite Callers bring you the last show of the year. Continuing the series of the North American Sasquatch Researcher, we welcome good friend and veteren Bigfoot researcher Pat Rance.
What started out as an elusive hobby for Pat Rance has virtually turned into an obsession to hunt the elusive Bigfoot that has been sighted in the Green Swamp of Florida at least 10 or more times in the last several years. Pat Rance actually came face to face with the creature in a dramatic night time encounter in Sumter County. In April 2006, along with three other researchers, Pat set up camp in the swamp southwest of Clermont. Having seen foot prints in the area as large as 18 inches long and 9 inches wide, they baited the campsite with a box of pancakes covered in syrup. When they later found more tracks and the pancakes were eaten, they knew they were in the right spot. " It was nighttime and I was returning to the main camp with a friend." Pat recalls. " We heard sudden movement in the trail immediately in front of us and I looked up to see a large creature jump off to the side of the trail. It was about 30 feet away and with my flashlight shining on it I could see this round head and massive shoulders above the tops of the palmettos. I went to raise my night vision glasses to my eyes and the creature jumped back onto the trail and quickly ran ahead of us and disappeared into the night. As we passed the spot where he'd been standing, I could smell maple syrup. I was totally awestruck. It happened soi fast I really didn't have time to be scared. I was surprised and elated at the same time. It was so satifying to finally see the creature I had been hearing about and hunting." To hear this story and other experiences from Pat Rance, be sure to tune in tonight for a celebration of Christmas and some really amazing stories.

It’s the season of giving—and Frat House Mike and Brandon are back on the microphones, ready to give you their analysis of some of the biggest NFL games of the week: Arizona Cardinals 12 - St. Louis Rams 6 / Pittsburgh Steelers 27 – Atlanta Falcons 20 / Buffalo Bills 21 – Green Bay Packers 13 / Cincinnati Bengals 30 – Cleveland Browns 0 / Dallas Cowboys 38 – Philadelphia Eagles 27.
Week 15 has many teams on the brink of the playoffs, while others are now worried about their potential to get into the playoffs. The Arizona Cardinals lost another quarterback, at a time when the division rivals Seahawks are starting to play HOT. The Green Bay Packers surprisingly lost to the Buffalo Bills, moving down in the playoff hunt as a now possible wild card. The Philadelphia Eagles lost their footing in the NFC East by losing to the Dallas Cowboys, and now need to depend on a Colts' win to possibly advance to the playoffs. And the Steelers' win keeps the AFC North interesting, as that division will come down to the last weekend of the season.
The guys take a look at the league’s standings and playoff picture, as well as some of the big NFL stories of the week: Johnny “Football” Manziel had a dismal first showing; powerhouse DeMarco Murray suffered an injury, as the Cowboys look to make a playoff run; and the Chargers, just never seem to be good enough.
We are heading into the BEST weeks of the NFL season, and Frat House Mike and Brandon will give it all to you, so sit down, grab a beer and listen to them dissect the Xs and Os! Give it a listen, give it a "follow", give them a shout out at 347 - 826 – 9964!

There's a harvest in the forest if you hunt for it.
Matthew 1:18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ was as follows: when His mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together she was found to be with child by the Holy Spirit. 19 And Joseph her husband, being a righteous man and not wanting to disgrace her, planned to send her away secretly. 20 But when he had considered this, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, "Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife; for the Child who has been conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. 21 "She will bear a Son; and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins." 22 Now all this took place to fulfill what was spoken by the Lord through the prophet: 23 "BEHOLD , THE VIRGIN SHALL BE WITH CHILD AND SHALL BEAR A SON, AND THEY SHALL CALL HIS NAME IMMANUEL ," which translated means, "GOD WITH US." 24 And Joseph awoke from his sleep and did as the angel of the Lord commanded him, and took Mary as his wife, 25 but kept her a virgin until she gave birth to a Son; and he called His name Jesus. Sometimes looking for the good in a situation forces us to make tough choices.
Doing what’s right isn’t always the easy thing. Joseph, Jesus’ adoptive Dad, could have dismissed his dream on “bad lamb” that day. He chose to follow…

In this episode of The Red Light Sports Ramble; presented by The Red Light Sports Network, Evan Witalison and Troy Otradovec will talk about the lastest rumors, about the Wisconsin Badgers, next head coach. Rumors are surfacing that current Pittsburgh coach, Paul Chryst, is in line to be named coach. No offer can be until a December 17th deadline has passed, because of the UW hiring policy, that is in place. Chryst, a Madison native, and former Wisconsin quarterback, could finally be the coach that stays. The next Badgers coach will be the third coach, since 2012. Do you think that Paul Chryst should be the next Badgers coach?
Week 15 started last night, with the Arizona Cardinals holding on to beat the St. Louis Rams. The Cardinals may have won the game, but could have suffered another setback. Starter Drew Stanton has an ACL, MCL strain. This injury could sideline him for a couple of weeks, and the Cardinals have big games, against the Seattle Seahawks and San Francisco 49ers. Do you think that the Stanton injury could cost the Cardinals a division title?
There are other games that have playoff implications this week, the biggest being the Dallas Cowboys visiting the Philadelphia Eagles. The Eagles won on Thanksgiving, so if they win, it would almost ensure them the division title, because they would have won both head to head matchups. Houston visits Indianapolis, and their slim division title hopes rest on this game. The Texans enter the game two games behind the Colts. Even with a win, the Texans would need the more help with two weeks remaining. Denver travels to San Diego, with a two game lead. The Broncos are 7-0, at home, but a mere 3-3 record, on the road. Finally, the San Francisco 49ers travel to Seattle. The Seahawks are still in the hunt, for a divsion title, while the 49ers are hanging on, by a thread. Who are you picking?
