This past week has been an interesting set of crossroads - the lib-tardation of this country is officially in OVERDRIVE!CBS's Steve Kroft had a puffball interview on 60 Minutes that turned out to be a debacle -- hence all the criticism coming out of that exchange. The Jeffrey Immelt GE's drones turning on Al Gore for his heresy of selling Current TV to "Big Oil", even though it's state media for Qatar, even though there's hypocrisy enough to go around. The SecDef Panetta decided [with the help of an arm-twisted Chairman of the Joint Chiefs at his side] to reverse the position of role of women in combat, which resulted in LOTS of backlash. As if all these weren't bad enough, the heirarchy of the Boy Scouts of America have decided to modify their ban on gay membership within the BSA.We'll be covering all these subjects & much more! Also, plenty of promo clips from AFT, FX's 'Justified' and Wounded Warrior Project~!!So ladies & menfolk... sit down, strap in & HOLD ON 'cuz it's gonna be one helluva fun bumpy ride! All this and more coming up on this installment of Still Flyin' Over the Heartland!Hosted by me, Flyover Territory, aka Eric, the acerbically witted, high octane, in-your-face, balls to the wall, never-say-die, slightly irreverent, semi-seedy underbelly of the rightward side of the BTR dial[WARNING! Questionable words may be used in the process of this episode... so you can't say weren't given a heads up!]
Gain Mindhsare will be meeting this morning with Millenial Lifestyle expert Chelsea Krost. She will be talking to us how brands and companies can reach this cruicial age group. Most recently, Chelsea appeared on Anderson (Anderson Cooper), where she provided commentary to the audience on what this age grouping thinks.
Regardless of your product or service, it is unlikely that you will be able to ignore this segment of the population. They now have their own money and they are using it to "vote" for what they pesonally like. Assuming that their parents are making purchases for them or that they don't have purchasing power would be a mistake. Having an understanding of this marketplace is critical for business success going forward. Their purchasing power is only going to grow and mature in the coming years.
Cheleas has been called on by a number of experts to explain what this group thinks. Typically she is asked to talk about the "troubled teen" phenomema in America. Therein lies the problem. Most of us in business have assumed that this is the only real way to take a look at trends concerning this group. As a result a number of us are missing out on opportunties to market to this grouping.
The other part of the discussion are the ethics of selling to teens. What should we marketing to them? And really and truly how much do they trust the marketing that they see and hear. Most traditional marketing is not necessarily trusted by this generation. They have much more invested into what their friends think and what is reccomended to them rather than what is presented to them.
Therefore, companies have to work to influence brands in their marketing if they expect to be able to reach this age segment. If you or your client sells merchandise or services to this age group, you will want to hear this interview. Don't miss a minute.
