Tonight I want to talk about prepper depression. Are you suffering? Have you suffered? More importantly what do you do to cope with it? There are moments in my own life when I get down into a hole because the future looks so bleak. I get afraid for my children and their children. I want recovery and success but I also understand that before that can really happen we have to have some growing pains. Its easy to pretend like nothing phases you and life is all coming up roses but if you are in the preparedness world and you make it your business to understand and mitigate threats than you better have a method to blow off steam. Otherwise you could wind up on the news as one of these crazy mass shooters who cracked under the pressure of life.

For Spring 2015, David Austin introduces four new English Roses to U.S. and Canadian gardeners. All four feature classic Austin rose attributes – a romantic old-fashioned flower form, heady fragrance and masses of blooms all season long. Michael Marriott is our guest on today's broadcast. He's the chief rosarian at David Austin roses and we'll be chatting about this exceptional collection of roses.
“We expect gardeners will be excited by these appealing English Roses,” says Austin’s senior rosarian Michael Marriott. “Each has irresistible qualities, the kind that lead gardeners to discover they have ‘just the spot’ for this!”
Available by mail order from www.davidaustinroses.com,
‘The Lady Gardener’ – This is an intensely fragrant, apricot-colored rose that’s astoundingly floriferous, nearly burying itself in perfume and flowers from early summer to frost and has added it to their list of Most Fragrant English Roses.
The Albrighton Rambler’ – Typically a rambler rose delivers a spectacular show, but blooms only once a season. ‘The Albrighton Rambler’ blooms repeatedly all season long.
Thomas à Becket’ – Whereas Austin’s roses often recall an Old Rose in look, this rose is closer to a species rose, being more natural and shrubby in growth. The large red flowers are shallowly cupped, opening as informal rosettes, with petals that quickly reflex as the flowers age.
Maid Marion’ – This 2015 North American introduction has everything gardeners prize in David Austin's English Roses. The buds open in rounded cups with large outside petals.
Roses are always the centerpiece of every well manicured garden. They can be a challenge at times but the rewards are great. Due to concerns about the harsh chemicals used to help cultivate these high maintenance plants, more and more gardeners are seeking advice from Rosarians to help them grow beautiful roses organically. In this segment of The Organic View Radio Show, host, June Stoyer talks to award winning Rosarian and author, Susan Fox, founder of Gaga's Garden. Biographical Sketch: As an avid horticulturist holding national awards for growing prize winning roses and award winning gardens, Gaga will share her knowledge with you. A master in the art of rose growing and garden design Gaga's expertise includes speaking on growing and the care of roses to the Plano and Dallas Master Gardeners Groups. During her tenure as treasurer of the Northeastern Illinois Rose Society, her society was instrumental in having the rose named as the national flower by the President of the United States. As an avid gardener, speaker and consulting rosarian, Gaga is dedicated to perpetuating knowledge growing things the organic way in our gardens and particularly the planting and care of rose gardens. She is a past member of the board of the Dallas Rose Society and the Northeastern Illinois Rose Society. The best gift a Father can give to his children is to LOVE THEIR MOTHER!
Come along on a sentimental journey, the birth of Father's Day-Circa 1909, Spokane, Washington...Sonora Dodd had an epiphany, while listening to a Mother's Day sermon, she wanted to honor her own Father, William Smart, who was well deserving of a special day as a widowed farmer left alone to raise his six kids single-handedly.
A year later, residents embraced the idea so warmly that by June 19,1910 the first Father's Day celebration was proclaimed.

Born in 1271, Queen Isabel was married to King Diniz (or Dinis). Like her great-aunt Saint Elizabeth of Hungary, for whom she was named, Saint Elizabeth of Portugal dedicated her life to the poor. She established orphanages and provided shelter for the homeless. She also founded a convent in Coimbra.
There are many versions of the story of Queen Isabel's miracle of turning bread into roses, but they are all fundamentally the same. She is said to have been forbidden by her unfaithful husband to give to the poor. Having hid bread to give away in her apron, she encountered King Diniz, who asked her what she was carrying. Not wanting to let on that the contents of her apron were meant for the poor, she responded that they were roses. The bread was transformed into roses, and King Dinis, who could not understand how she could have possession of fresh roses in January, did not punish his wife.
Known for settling disputes, Queen Isabel was called the Peacemaker. When her son Affonso (or Afonso) declared war on his father, jealous of the attention being paid by Diniz to his illegitimate sons, she rode between the armies, reconciling the two sides. On another occasion, she rode to Estremoz despite being ill to keep the army of Affonso, by then Affonso IV, from fighting that of Castile. Affonso, angry at the mistreatment his daughter Maria was suffering at the hands of her husband, the king of Castile, had ordered an attack. Isabel stopped the fighting, but the exertion proved to be too much for her and she fell ill, dying shortly thereafter.
Isabel was buried in Coimbra. She was canonized in 1625 by Urban VIII, and her feast day is July 4. Many Portuguese and Portuguese-American organizations bear her name.

Life is full of good-byes. A child grows up and leaves for college or military service. A neighbor moves to another state. A loved one is dying. Sometimes we face seasons when we must say good-bye to security and safety, to prosperity, to a cherished dream. One of the rich ministries we can have in people’s lives is to know the words to speak at such times. Jory and Kim Crabill explore the kinds of “last words” that can keep a person grounded and moving forward with hope even though the future holds a lot of unknowns.
Kim Crabill is founder and president of Roses and Rainbows Ministries, Inc., and Community COFFEEs, the author of several books, including Burdens to Blessings, and a nationally known speaker. For more information about Kim Crabill and her ministries, visit www.rosesandrainbows.org.
