Tune in and join me as I welcome this week's guest.
Author Kimberley Reeves joins me on the Indie Books Show this week to talk about her book: Whispers to the Heart.
When Detective Mac Logan receives a frantic call from a woman claiming she knows a murder is about to take place because of a psychic vision, his first reaction is to write her off as a certified nutcase. But when he discovers a young woman has recently been reported missing, Mac feels compelled to check it out. As he and the psychic, Rennie O’Neal, race against time to find the woman before it’s too late, a grudging admiration and belief in Rennie’s abilities begins to form. But she is not the only one hearing voices. Drawn to the beautiful, fascinating woman, Mac is soon hearing voices too; whispers to the heart that tell him what he feels for Rennie is much more than admiration.

Showmanship is the best description of jazz drummer Paula Hampton. The Middletown, Ohio native arrived in New York in the late 1960s and what was meant as a short visit turned into the rest of her life. Pianist Jill McManus’ Jazz Sisters hired her quickly, and Paula remained with them through the mid-1970s. She joined Sandra Reeves-Phillips on The Late Great Ladies of Jazz & Blues Europe and Africa tour. When the band returned to the U.S., Paula and pianist Lillette Jenkins stayed behind to perform in Bern, Switzerland for three weeks. Stateside, Paula joined the great Dakota Staton for 5 years. She performed from with The Hampton Family Orchestra, lead by her mother, Aletra Hampton, featuring her uncle, Slide Hampton and aunt, Dawn Hampton. With jazz pianist Bertha Hope, Paula formed Jazzberry Jam! with vocalist Pat Spann and bassist, Carline Ray. Jazzberry Jam! performed internationally for 15 years. They performed at the 1998 Child of the Sun Festival in Lakeland, Florida. The documentary film, Les Femmes du Jazz, featured Jazzberry Jam! and won the Best Documentary Award at France’s Bairritz Film Festival (FIPA) in 2000. Bertha, Paula, and Carline received the Mary Lou Williams Women In Jazz Award at Washington, D.C.’s Kennedy Center in 2005. In 2006, Jazzberry Jam! provided the live music for the well-received documentary, Been Rich All My Life, which chronicled the historically rich lives of Harlem’s famed former showgirls, The Silver Belles. The Jazz Foundation of America keeps Paula fairly busy performing and she works with other musicians as well.
We’ve all heard the expression, “Don’t lose any sleep over it,” yet over 50 percent of Americans don’t get a good night’s sleep. The number one culprit: stress. Whether work, family, or finance related, many North Americans are bringing stress into the bedroom, which can seriously impact the amount (and quality) of sleep they obtain. The consequences of not getting enough shut-eye is a weakened immune system that increases your susceptibility to health issues including colds and flus.
Find out how sleep and your immune system work together:
• How to tell if six, seven or eight hours is the proper amount of sleep for you.
• Why poor sleeps habits are really just treatable symptoms of everyday stress.
• Why bedtime rituals are important and should be followed nightly.
• How sleep and other natural aids strengthen your immune system and your overall health.
