    Kevin Stea RETURNS!

    in Movies

"I recently had dinner with my birth parents together for the first time.  Sitting between them i realized how little time I had left to really know my now 78-year old father Andrew, having grown up with my caucasian mother and barely a word spoken about him until i tracked him down at 18.  26 years later we’ve still never spoken of his childhood in China, escaping war into Korea or his missionary immigration to the US.  Only a few years ago did i discover his seven marriages and splintered relationships with his eight brothers and sisters.  12 years ago my father and I made a plan to go together and he cancelled. We never spoke of it again, but now he is the only one of the family who remembers our home in China.   Thirty years ago my grandfather returned to Antung and was accused of being a spy because he received money from the government, so though the world has marched forward, our distant family still lives in the same house there and in much the same way. I’ve never spent more than one night with Andrew, so it is a unique opportunity to actually document these first moments of sharing, of traveling, of healing, of becoming related.  From staying in our ancestral home, learning my father’s technique in stretching noodles by hand from scratch and walking the Great Wall to studying the language and history, we’ll be discovering each other anew and making up for a childhood apart, while Andrew confronts the death of his mother and his youth spent supporting his siblings and the realities of war. We cannot move forward powerfully without understanding our past, which begins with our family.  We are the architects of our future and the biggest most fulfilling journeys can begin with the simplest of questions that we never seem to ask those who we’ve known all our lives, such as ‘Who are you?”.

    Milling About with Kevin Pollak

    in Entertainment

Kevin Pollak joins host Robin Milling at the Tribeca Film Festival, now in it's 14th year to discuss his film Misery Loves Comedy. Kevin wrote and directed this insightful documentary about what goes on behind the laughter and what drives today's hottest comedians to get up in front of a roomful of strangers to be the center of attention and tell jokes. Kevin was ultimately curious about the type of person who suffers from 'hey look at me syndrome devoted to acceptance and appreciation.'

He tells Robin he began with a very strict shooting schedule which allowed for a commitment from comedians; most of them his friends such as Jimmy Fallon, Amy Schumer, Christopher Guest, Janeane Garofalo, Bob Saget, Lisa Kudrow, Tom Hanks, Kevin Nealon, and Larry David; to name a few. By the end he had over 60 but one that was sorely missed is the late Robin Williams, a mentor and close friend to Kevin, who unfortunately was not available during the locked-in time. Kevin says they had hour-long conversations which made up for his absence, and when he passed while he was editing the film it was a 'no brainer' to dedicate the film to him in his memory. “It was frustrating for both of us. He wanted me to know how much he wanted to be in the film, how much it meant to him that I was doing this and spoke a great deal about his own journey and misery and happiness and life. All of those things that long-time friends talk about.”

Kevin keeps very busy with his own podcast, Kevin Pollak Chat Show, and has no immediate plans to join his friend Larry David on the Broadway stage in A Fish In the Dark. He tells Robin, “I'm happy for Larry's now historical Broadway success but that is the last thing I want to do!”

    Epiphany's House welcomes Kevin Sandloom!!!!

    in Indie Music

Y aknow that voice you cannot stop listening to?  The one that just makes you sigh and shiver at the same time?  That voice?  That voice is Kevin Sandbllom...What? You did not know I adore him?  Now you do...Join us Sunday as I sit a spell and get nosey with the wonderful wonderful Kevin Sandbloom....

Kevin Sandbloom is a man who knows a little bit about rebirth and new beginnings. Throughout his career, he has continually reinvented himself. First he was a member of cover bands and then he did an extended stint with the popular Southern California band The Congregation. But, perhaps his most intriguing transformation has been as a traveling solo artist who wows crowds from Boston to St. Louis to his native Los Angeles.

Seven full-length albums and an EP under his belt, he is currently touring and promoting his latest recording, STILL BLUE [Sandbloom sings Joni], a complete cover of Joni Mitchell’s Blue. He has performed on stages as diverse as Poetry N Motion in London, England to Nuyorican Poets Cafe in New York to Berklee College of Music in Boston to B.B. King's Blues Club in Los Angeles and is a fixture at music and poetry venues across the U.S. He brings a fresh sound to an industry weaned on Auto-tune without being retro or dated.

Regarded as a songwriter at the top of his game, he wrote the title track for Grammy-nominated guitar legend Robben Ford’s Supernatural album. He has also contributed music to many independent films including Laurence Fishburne’s directorial debut, Once in the Life and he had a featured appearance on the ABC Family series “Lincoln Heights.
