All of us who treasure being True Funk Soldiers are excited about welcoming back Greg Adams :) TFS is what we are who follow East Bay Soul, and Greg is the one who founded this fabulous assembly of talent. The group is enjoying the success of its current album, "That's Life" (the third from EBS) - and Greg has a lot to say about the project and about an upcoming event that is extremely close to his heart.
But, meanwhile, there's a lot to say about GREG! This is a born leader in the music industry. Over four decades of giving us joy via that trumpet, arranging, songwriting, and WAY more (including mentoring) have earned him a place in our hearts forever. Greg had 14 albums as founding member of Tower of Power - he arranged those beautiful horns within those vinyl walls! He has had six solo works - and - ready for this? - over 600 recordings all told! With household names. Matter-of-fact, go back to Santana's "Everything is Everything" and Elton John's "The Bitch is Back" - Greg has been a HUGE part of musical history.
Hey, if he had never done anything besides co-writing the theme (with good friend, Paul Shaffer) for the "Late Night with David Letterman" Show, it might have been enough ;) But look at the "so much else" involved! Including score arrangements for favorite films through the years.
"That's Life" is the name of the latest East Bay Soul effort - and it's doing SO well that True Funk Soldiers are smiling broadly! In conjunction with the album's buzz, there is an important endeavor happening on 10/24. "The Mike Jones Kidney Foundation Evening of Jazz." Greg is PASSIONATE about this cause - and he'll explain why when he visits our show on 10/15. It will be a special Birthday Show - so you won't want to miss it!
