THE POPULIST MOMENT WITH KARL EYSENBACH

    in Politics

Few Americans know that there was a moment in American history where an organic movement arose that challenged the corporate power structure that enslaved average Americans following the Civil War.  The Populist movement developed during the 1880s among American farmers and grew to encompass a wide swath of Americans who demanded economic justice. The movement was a great influence in preparing Americans to demand that the government intervene to help them in the wake of the Great Depression.

We are now going through a depression that would dwarf that if the 30s were it not for the social safety net that Roosevelt began to build in an effort to not only save capitalism but to help millions of suffering Americans. The New Deal was the embodiment of much of the Square Deal that FDR's cousin Teddy fought for in a period that marked the rise of political power of Populism. Now the social safety net is being shredded, threatening to impoverish even more millions of Americans who have already been made poor by the bankster devastation of the economy in 2008 that was largely the result of the destruction of the Glass-Steagal Act by a Republican Congress and a Democratic President in 2003.

The banksters are still the enemy and the People must rise again to stop them, using lessons learned from the Populists applied with 21st Century tools. That is the topic of this interview with economic and political analyst Karl Eysenbach.

THROWING THE BUMS OUT WITH KARL EYSENBACH

    in Politics

Gerrymandering has made a mockery of the democratic process throughout the US. Engineering districts to benefit one party or the other has been raised to a fine art, making most of them safe for incumbents. Current members of Congress have over a 90% chance of being re-elected. Those who call to "throw all the bums out" generally seem to feel that their bums are the exception to the rule, not making the connection to why Congress as a whole has a 9% approval rating.

With the stunning defeat of House Speaker Eric Cantor by a candidate who spent little over 5% of what he did, it is evident that unified action by disaffected voters can affect elections. Citizens of Virginia's District 7 have shown both conservatives and liberals that they do not have to settle for the choices of the establishment in the Duopoly parties. The key to turning this apparent anomoly into a trend will be to get self-identified liberals and conservatives to agree on issues that they can unite on and use them to elect candidates who will represent the People and not special interests.

Poltical analyst Karl Eysenbach joins us once again to talk about how some activists are organizing in Eugene, Oregon to challenge the lock that party flacks have on the Board of County Commissioners. Their success in the recent elections holds lessons for everyone who wants to end corporate control at all levels of government, end the gridlock in Washington and Take Back America for the People.

THE POLITICS OF WAR WITH KARL EYSENBACH

    in Politics

We talk a lot about why we need to end war. Some people are actively involved in trying to wake people up by protest, civil disobediance and educational efforts in the alternative media. Progress is being made, but it is slow in coming.Given the devastating effects of a war-based economy on society and the Earth itself, we cannot give up on the political process. Just as assuming that war is inevitable is a self-fulfilling prophecy if it leads people to act accordingly, assuming that all politicians put the interests of the global elite over ours prevents us from forging a political consensus for peace by giving politicians credit when they do the right thing. On Friday October 4, Taking Back America will host political guru Karl Eysenbach, who blogs as Old New Lefty on Open Salon. We will talk about a little-noticed pattern in the President's actions that suggests he is resisting a push to war with Syria and Iran, the historic significance of this and why it is critical that we seize this moment to advance the cause of peace. This show will be rebroadcast on October 7 at 9 AM PST/ 12 PM EST on the Star Com Radio network.Take Back America for the People is an educational nonprofit whose mission is to educate the American public on true costs of corporate control of the US government.Know the truth and the truth will set us free.

REPLACING A FAILED ECONOMY WITH KARL EYSENBACH

    in Politics

On Friday September 20 at 8 PM PST/11 EST Taking Back America once again welcomes its resident economics expert Karl Eysenbach, who writes a unique blog under the name Old New Lefty. If the endless debates about economics we hear in the news and read about in newpaper and magazine articles and columns seem confusing, it is because all of them are based on false premises. That is why none of the mainstream media "experts" are talking about the fact that the US and global economies are not just going through a down cycle but are in fact fundamentally broken.Historical comparisons are completely invalid. We are in a unique period where the financial geniuses who made out like bandits while crashing the economy and leving entire nations in their debt are out of tricks to hide the truth any longer. We are never going to see a return to what was always an unsustainable model of economic growth.Once this is clearly understood, it becomes obvious that we face a stark choice: submit to perpetual economic slavery or organize to effect a complete transformation of our socioeconomic model by transforming the political and economic assumptions on which it is based. This show will be rebroadcast on September 21 at 9 AM PST/ 12 PM EST on the Star Com Radio network.Take Back America for the People is an educational nonprofit whose mission is to educate the American public on true costs of corporate control of the US government.Know the truth and the truth will set us free.

DEBT CRISIS AND AUSTERITY WITH KARL EYSENBACH

    in Politics

Like a dog with a bone, those who dictate policy for their puppets in Congress will not let go of the idea of using the issue of the national debt to impose austerity measures on Americans in order to continue to feed on corporate welfare provided at the government trough through taxes paid disproportionately by the less well off.If you haven't figured out what that means, you will want to listen to this episode of Taking Back America, where we discuss the relation between national debt, the American system of corporate welfare, and the means by which the economic elite who rule America intend to continue to strip the wealth of America to the bone. Our guest on Tuesday, October 22 at 3 PM PST/ 6 PM EST  is our resident economic expert Karl Eysenbach, who blogs at Old New Left on OpenSalon.com.This show will be rebroadcast on November 2 at 9 AM PST/ 12 PM EST on the Star Com Radio network.Take Back America for the People is an educational nonprofit whose mission is to educate the American public on true costs of corporate control of the US government.Know the truth and the truth will set us free.

ENDING THE SURVEILLANCE STATE WITH KARL EYSENBACH

    in Politics

There is nothing so dangerous to the powers that be than a source of hope that they can be overcome.NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden sparked a very important conversation that goes beyond the superficial coverage of much of the corporate media. For the first time, most Americans were confronted with the reality of what the Patriot Act, NDAA and other "anti-terrorist" legislation added up to when coupled with the ability to spy on every American citizen in their every communication. It was easy for some to dismiss the idea of "Total Information Awareness" by their government as something they needn't worry about if they were doing nothing wrong, but knowing that anything did in private could be used against them made many finally look at the consequences of surrending our Fourth Amendment and other constitutional rights. On August 10, SFPI Radio welcomes back our resident intelligence expert Karl Eysenbach to explain to us how the surveillance society developed, what it means to us and what we can do to fight it. Know the truth and the truth will set us free.Subscribe to automatic reminders and descriptions of this and future shows by hitting the "follow" button on our home page.

ABOLISH THE CIA WITH KARL EYSENBACH

    in Politics

How much do you really know about how the CIA works? If Americans knew, it is likely that they would be calling to shut it down. It is debatable whether it serves any useful intelligence function that might not be better served by other agencies in the massive intelligence complex created in the wake of 9/11, one that is arguably less efficient than before the creation of the Homeland Security Agency.

As for the covert operations, do we really need an unaccountabel agency overthrowing governments, conducting assassinations, propagandizing Americans and their allies, all to serve the "national interests" which are assumed to be identical to those of the leaders of transnational corporations who dictate US foreign policy acccording to their business plans?

This show will be rebroadcast on June 20 at 2 PM PST/ 5 PM EST on the Star Com Radio Network.

    BEYOND PARTISANSHIP WITH KARL EYSENBACH

    in Politics

In the aftermath of a bruisingly angry election, both parties are taking stock of the future. Republicans are wondering if their tent has become to small to welcome the numbers needed to consistently win elections. Democrats are pondering if they can get by forever on hope for change and blaming the other party for their failure to deliver.

In a democracy, it is up to We the People to tell our government what to do. If we cannot get past partisan bickering and come together to forge a consensus, our government will continue to ignore our real needs in favor of serving the corporate interests upon which their campaign financing depends.

On November 15 our guest was blogger, author and  political and economic analyst Karl Eysenbach. We will be talking about what the election can teach us about how to move the country forward by focusing on our common values and interests, and how demographic trends will drive this change.

This show is the first in a series of episodes that will deal with how to build consensus on specific issues across political ideologies that will allow us to Take Back America for the People.

This show will be rebroadcast on Saturday, November  17 at 12 PM CST on Star Com Radio network.

OBAMACARE V HEALTH CARE WITH KARL EYSENBACH

    in Politics

With the disastrous rollout of the inaptly named "Affordable" Health Care Act, Americans are again debating what the real effects of Obamacare will prove to be. The arguments in the corporate media by both supporters and opponents of the bill are rife with distortions, cherry-picking of facts, outright lies and partisan arguments that add much heat but little light to the debate.

This is the perfect time to examine how Obamacare was created and how a process dominated by the insurance industry resulted in what some predicted early in the debate: A bailout for an insurance industry that was pricing itself out of existence. If supporters of ACA do not start to acknowledge its fatal flaws, the political fallout for the Democratic Party and the cause of true universal health care is likely to be enormous.

On January 3 at 10 PM PST/ 12 PM EST, political analyst Karl Eysenbach, who blogs as Old New Lefty, will discuss this issue with host Rick Staggenborg of Physicians for a National Health Program on Taking Back America.

This show will be rebroadcast on Saturday, January 3 at 9 AM PST/ 12 PM EST on the Star Com Radio network.

TPP-KO IN ROUND TWENTY? WITH KARL EYSENBACH

    in Politics

As awareness and outrage over the TransPacific Partnership grows in the US and elsewhere, the prospects for easy passage are getting rockier by the day. The Wikileaks release of one of the more damning chapters granting sovereign powers to corporations over nations raised visility tremendously. Tea party favorite Michelle Bachmann, nearly 2 dozen other Republicans and over 130 Democrats in the House have called for transparency in the negotiations and it looks too late to ram fast track authority through Congress in this session. All that, and some of the nations are balking at the giveaways demanded by the banksters who stand to profit the most from TPP.

Please join SFPI Radio on Saturday, November 22 at 9 AM PST/ 12 PM EST as we talk with political analyst Karl Eysenbach about these and other recent developments as the 20th round of the TPP talks grinds on in Salt Lake City, where protestors are outside the doors, illuniating the issues just when the corporatocracy most wants to keep us in the dark.

SENIORS VS CORPORATIONS WITH KARL EYSENBACH

    in Politics

There has been a lot of concern about what Congress will do to adress the problem of funding Medicare in the face of an aging population and a decline in the income of the fewer young workers who are expected to pay for it. Older citizens were among the most vocal in opposing the only reform in Medicare that can save it, a universal, single payer system like those that have worked so well in other countries. On April 12 we discussed these problems and the role of corporations in the effort to keep the truth from the American public with Karl Eysenbach, political scientist and our resident expert on economics and politics. Karl blogs as Old New Lefty on Salon.com. This show was broadcast on April 13  at 10 AM PST/ 12 PM EST on the Star Com Radio network. Take Back America for the People is an educational nonprofit whose mission is to reveal to the American public the true costs of corporate control of the US government.
