She has long been interested in the topic of Women’s Empowerment, so it’s only natural that she has put together a book about it, featuring 20 women who have been mentors to her along the path of her life! Mentors range from an Army General, to the developer of Healing Touch, to a member of the US House of Representatives. I am honored to be one of those mentors whom she has featured in this book, side-by-side with these amazing women. We’ll be talking about our lives, women’s empowerment, making lemonade out of lemons, and the other amazing mentors she features as Real Hot Mamas!

Woe be unto you writer, should you land in a Washington Post article titled “The five worst sentences I read in January.” When I read that post written by the new nonfiction book critic Carlos Lozada, I knew two things. First, I needed to interview Lozada. Second, I was afraid to write him an email.
Lozada’s voice engaged me because in addition to rhetorical smarts, he’s pretty funny. Though he’s been at the paper for several years, he began his new role at Book Party in January. I’m proud to announce the March 22 episode of Behind the Prose will feature an interview with Lozada. In classic Behind the Prose fashion, I’ll learn how he approaches his own writing craft and process and what it’s like to read and write for a living.
Besides the five worst sentences he read in January, we’ll discuss his Book Party posts including the hilarious book review “Reggie Love on life as Obama’s “chief of stuff” and the ballooning list of journalism cliches forbidden in the The Post’s Sunday Outlook section.
Oh, and if you do find yourself in one of Lozada’s worst sentences articles, don’t be upset. He just shames your offending sentence, not your entire book.
Unless, I suppose, it needed it.
Carlos Lozada is associate editor and nonfiction book critic at the Washington Post, where he has worked since 2005 in various capacities, including economics editor, national security editor and Outlook editor. Previously, he was managing editor of Foreign Policy magazine and a Knight-Bagehot fellow in economics and business journalism at Columbia University. A native of Lima, Peru, he is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame and Princeton University.

VividLife Radio's Edie Weistein welcomes Author Karilee Shames to discuss Amazing Mentors: The REAL Hot Mama's Path to Power
Everyone needs a team of emotional cheerleaders. Are there people in your life that you view as mentors and guides who have blazed a path and shone a light so that you could find your own way? As an emotionally under-nourished, overly-sensitive child, multiple bestselling author and medical expert Karilee Shames’ young life was plagued with maternal loneliness and misunderstanding. Yet she quickly learned to seek out women who modeled the qualities she most sought to emulate and soon realized that she, herself, had become a mentor to others. Amazing Mentors: The REAL Hot Mama’s Path to Power is a tribute to those who have helped to shape her life, and the lives of so many other women, including Congresswoman Lynn Woolsey, US Army General Clara Adams, Yoga Journal Co-Founder Rama Vernon and more. www.AmazingMentorsBook.com

How many wrong decisions can one nation endure? Every week there's a new story that shows a shocking lack in ethics or judgement on the part of the government. It’s open season on the environment, on science, the rights of veterans, it shames us all. Cuts to investigative journalism by most media outlets are allowing many stories to remain under-covered or untold altogether. Media consolidation has meant there are fewer voices reporting, with ever-tightening restrictions on what they can say. This is a critical threat to democracy, and it's the principal motivation for this film. Independent voices must pick up the slack.
- The tradition of being at the forefront of scientific research and development, critical to the nation's properity, has been all but abandoned. Our prowess and innovation has been flushed because scientifc research is revealing the effects of destructive policies.
- Since 2006 there has been an erosion of funding for veterans. The closure of 9 offices has resulted in having to drive for as long as eight hours to receive support. Lump sum payments have replaced life-long pensions, leaving veterans with less.
- The Harper Government has spent over 40 million dollars on TV ads promoting the oilsands. They fail to mention NAFTA is investigating how Canada is ignoring its own environmental laws. Responsible development is crucial for prosperity, but allowing oil giants to pollute without limit is leading to tragic results.
"Not In Our Name" (NION) will explore the axis of Industry, Media and Government, which prioritizes corporate interests over the peoples' interests. NION will show similar tactics around the world. The footage will directly contrast the pristine beauty of Canada with the damage that has been caused by de-regulated industry. We will work as hard as your contributions will allow. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1916096034/not-in-our-name
The final Celtics Talk Radio broadcast of 2014. The Boston Celtics have played 4 games since our last broadcast. The Celtics played at the Miami Heat then at the Orlando Magic. Then hosted Kevin Garnett and the Nets. Then faced off with Paul Pierce and the Washington Wizards down in the nation's capital. The Celtic's Talk Crew will recap the big question which is. Did the Celtic's make up their mind in regards to what they wanted out of this season? Did they dominate the month of decemebr and gain ground on the weak eastern conference playoff race. Or did they get beat by the teams in the NBA'S mediocre group and instead push themselves further away from the playoff picture and make it look like another tanking season is in our midst. Jay O of redsarmy.com and Jon Shames will join Igor and the rest of the crew to discuss where do the Celtic's go from here do they repeat the same thing they did in the 2013/14 or do they fight to show fans they are looking to win and make an impact now and not focus on hypothetical situations 4 or 5 years from now
Feminism: Christian or Anti-Christian. Is feminism a socialist scheme to destroy the family unit, so that the government can raise the children and turn them into mind control slaves?
"Women Against Feminism" by Suzanne Venker Three tenants of feminism: 1) Women are imprisoned by their negative view of women and their place in the world. 2) Injustices perpetrated on women including the fact that they MUST have babies and men do not have to… 3) There is no difference between men and women other than their sex organs.
1) Feminism did not liberate women. It has actually harmed women by placing them in a prison of negative thinking and promoted dead-end promiscuity.
2) Studies show that women today are LESS happy under modern Feminist assumptions and cultural practices.
3) Women today do not owe feminists for everything. Feminism did NOT give women the right to vote or go to college. Those rights existed BEFORE the "Second Wave Feminism" of the 60's.
4) The Women's Suffrage Movement was NOT a "feminist" movement: the "Suffragettes" were actually Pro-Life, Pro-Family and Conservative women. (Today's Feminists would reject them, ironically.)
5) Feminism has robbed women of placing family and marriage at the center of their lives, as the most meaningful part of their existence. Instead, it shames women into believing that career materialism should be placed at the center.
6) Women should ignore the institutionalized, Feminist cultural prescriptions that demean motherhood and marriage. They should sequence their lives in a way that place family as the most central, meaningful experience of their lives.
7) Feminism is a finished movement in America.
Prov. 12:4; an excellent wife is the crown of her husband, But she who shames him is like rottenness in his bones.
Hey there Tea Sippers! It's another installment of Don't Come out of a Bag, Wednesday and this time I am going to bring about an umbrella topic that I think touches our lives in all forms.....that topic is SECRETS!! Often times we keep secrets, hold secrets, and let secrets create an alternative reality for us because we are afraid to address them, release them, or hold ourselves accountable for them.
With this edition, I want us to really dig deep and look at Secrets from this angle...
*Polyamorous Relationships: Are you willing to allow your significant other to go outside of the relationship because you are afraid to share that your sexual appetite has lessened or has become non existent?
*Growing Old Gayfully: How many of us are hiding behind the secrets of body changes, image problems, shames of feeling inadequate and yet we are afraid to face what has become our NEW NORMALS?
*Parenting: How many of us are hiding our TRUTHS from our children? Biological Gay parents who have not disclosed themselves to their children are afraid of what consequences?
*Private Lives vs. Secret Rendevous: Is there a difference between being a Private Individual and being a Secret Individual? Can those line blur without anyone recognizing the differences?
We will talk about this PLUS whatever is on your mind.....You KNOW the rules.... We can talk about Whatever is on your mind, right here... right now.. BUT if you come out of a Bag... I will come out of a BIGGER BAG...
so have all of your crumpets together and let's serve up a HOT POT of tea, darlings.
PULP FRICTION with Paul Levine welcomes Laurence Shames, best known for his series of Key West crime comedies, including "Florida Straits", "Sunburn", and "Tropical Depression". Shames has just released "Shot on Location", his ninth Florida novel, and the first in a dozen years. During that quiet period, Shames was contacted by hundreds of readers who were concerned that he’d either retired or died. The truth was somewhere in between—he’d been working mainly as a high-priced but malcontented ghostwriter, storing up the frustrations and resentments that would eventually find hilarious release in the new book.
The hero of "Shot on Location"—surprise!—is a successful ghostwriter who’d rather be writing novels. He’s sent to Key West on a job he really doesn’t want to do—a tie-in book for a hot but brainless TV show. But then strange and criminal things start happening-- involving speedboats, Mafia, Hollywood executives, impossible actresses, a spooky blonde stalker, and a chihuahua. Does the underdog hero find his novel amid the mayhem? And true love in the bargain? Let’s see if we can find out.
Interviewer Paul Levine is the winner of the John D. MacDonald Fiction award. His latest novel is "State vs. Lassiter." http://www.paul-levine.com
