EP 6: Maj. Corey Schultz Shares Career, Army Reserve Public Affairs & Transition

    in Military

I have been a Public Affairs Officer in the Navy and the Army for almost 17 years, two deployments, three continents, an aircraft carrier and a hospital ship, two Pentagon tours, detainee ops and last but certainly not least -- small unit management in the Army Reserve. It has been quite a journey! I remember most fondly the relationships with coworkers who became friends and the humanitarian assistance missions: Hurricane Katrina in 2005 and the aftermath of the Pakistan earthquake in 2006.

EP5: One Savvy Veteran Meosha Thomas Tells Story of Service, In Uniform & Beyond

    in Military

I am a single mother of 2 daughters (12 and 3) trying to make a positive impact and difference in this world while raising my daughters to do the same. I served 10 years active duty in the United States Navy before I was injured supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom. I was honorably discharged and retired from military service due to my extensive injuries and sent home in 2010. When I returned home, it was hard to find a place that had all the information I needed to help me transition from military service to civilian life. The few organizations I did find gave inaccurate information. It was a very frustrating and lonely time in my life. In the military, we are a part of a team with a purpose. I was isolated and missed the camaraderie that comes with the sisterhood of military service. I also noticed that as few services as there were for veterans, there was even FEWER services for women veterans. My mother instilled in me that “if you are not a part of the solution, then you are a part of the problem.” I wanted to create an organization that I did not have when I got out of the military. An organization that encouraged, educated and empowered women veterans helping them successfully navigate from military service to civilian life. One Savvy Veteran is a source of support, assistance, resources and camaraderie for women veterans. So, I left my prestigious job and created a solution like my mother taught me and the military trained me.

EP 2: Angela Cody-Rouget of Major Mom Talks Organization, Entrepreneurship

    in Military

Angela Cody-Rouget is the founder and owner of Major Mom and one of three Certified Professional Organizers in Arizona. She is also a certified Family Manager. She moved with her family and the military over 27 times. Because of this, she learned to keep her load light and not get attached to stuff. Angela understood what it was like to make new friends and then have to leave them. Angela spent 18 years dedicated to serving her country in the US Air Force.  She attained the rank of Major in the USAF and her husband nicknamed her Major Mom after their first child was born. Angela would return from a long weekend of reserve duty and her husband would hand her baby Lily and say “Yeah, Major Mom is home!” Angela has been called Major Mom since December 2003. After her son was born in 2005, she resigned her commission to be a better wife and mother to her two children. She worked as a corporate sale representative for five years and then started her organizing company in 2006. She earned a BA in Speech Communication at Indiana University and an MBA from University of Colorado. Today, Angela puts a high value on her church, family, friends and staff, as she cherishes those strong connections. She sees that she’s part of a larger global family, and longs for her business to grow so that she can give more to help those in need – especially children.

Angela is a member of the National Association of Professional Organizers (NAPO) and Faithful Organizers, and has served as the President of the Board of Directors for NAPO-Colorado. Like most women, she sometimes feels torn between kids and career and the balancing act is difficult, but she’s thankful for a husband who is supportive and understanding and she couldn’t do life without him.
