Live from Viva Las Vegas! Talking to Female Vets of Pinups For Patriots

    in Military

Started in 2010, Pinups for Patriots was founded by Kalen Arreola to raise funds for military charities. This year, they will file for nonprofit status and adjust our fundraising goals.

Mission: To bring back the patriotism of the WWII era while supporting our military veterans and their communities.
Vision: To be recognized nationwide as the largest group within the pin-up community supporting our service members and first responders.
We are a female veteran-owned small business, with the first calendar published in 2010 and more than 500 calendars sent overseas to deployed service men and women since then.

We generate revenue through sponsorships, events, product sales and memberships. We will begin offering grants to non-profits starting in 2015. In the meantime, we will continue to donate to non-profit organizations that we partner with during our events.

The women in our chapters are business owners, service members, veterans, military spouses, medical professionals and more… they are the REAL LIFE “Rosie the Riveters” of today, and they are beyond passionate about the veterans we support. Our sponsors must share the same love of veterans and pin-up as we do.

pricing digital files ~ with photographer Kalen Henderson

    in Photography

Join me as I chat with kalen henderson about how to price digital files. Kalen has an interesting perspective on how to price digital files and make money doing it!
Kalen purchased her first studio in 1987 and grew it through four building expansions before selling it in 2006. Following that, she did some teaching and consulting for a few years, then decided that she hadn't gotten rid of the bug yet so I opted to start from scratch on a brand new studio, in a much smaller community just outside her previous market. She opened StudioK in June of 2010 and has been chugging along ever since.

EP 6: Maj. Corey Schultz Shares Career, Army Reserve Public Affairs & Transition

    in Military

I have been a Public Affairs Officer in the Navy and the Army for almost 17 years, two deployments, three continents, an aircraft carrier and a hospital ship, two Pentagon tours, detainee ops and last but certainly not least -- small unit management in the Army Reserve. It has been quite a journey! I remember most fondly the relationships with coworkers who became friends and the humanitarian assistance missions: Hurricane Katrina in 2005 and the aftermath of the Pakistan earthquake in 2006.

EP5: One Savvy Veteran Meosha Thomas Tells Story of Service, In Uniform & Beyond

    in Military

I am a single mother of 2 daughters (12 and 3) trying to make a positive impact and difference in this world while raising my daughters to do the same. I served 10 years active duty in the United States Navy before I was injured supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom. I was honorably discharged and retired from military service due to my extensive injuries and sent home in 2010. When I returned home, it was hard to find a place that had all the information I needed to help me transition from military service to civilian life. The few organizations I did find gave inaccurate information. It was a very frustrating and lonely time in my life. In the military, we are a part of a team with a purpose. I was isolated and missed the camaraderie that comes with the sisterhood of military service. I also noticed that as few services as there were for veterans, there was even FEWER services for women veterans. My mother instilled in me that “if you are not a part of the solution, then you are a part of the problem.” I wanted to create an organization that I did not have when I got out of the military. An organization that encouraged, educated and empowered women veterans helping them successfully navigate from military service to civilian life. One Savvy Veteran is a source of support, assistance, resources and camaraderie for women veterans. So, I left my prestigious job and created a solution like my mother taught me and the military trained me.
