Black History Month: Slocum Texas Massacre of 1910

    in Lifestyle

The 1910 Slocum Massacre in East Texas officially saw between eight and 22 blacks killed, and evidence suggests African-American casualties were 10 times these amounts. Yet the massacre has become a dirty Lone Star secret, remarkably more for the inattention it has received than for its remembrance.  Unlike most Texas communities in the early 20th century, the unincorporated town of Slocum — like Rosewood — was mostly African-American, with several black citizens considerably propertied and a few owning stores and other businesses. This alone, in parts of the South, might have been enough to foment violence.

According to the Aug. 2 edition of the Palestine Daily Herald, Gardner said there could be “no justification for shooting men in the back, waylaying or killing them in their houses.” By the time the grand jury findings were reported on Aug. 17, several hundred witnesses had been examined. Though 11 men were initially arrested, seven were indicted — and they were only accused in the murders of five of the identified victims.   In the Slocum Massacre, seven men were indicted by a grand jury, but no one was ever tried.

This discussion will focus on the plight of one family (the Holley's) and it is through their eyes that we'll explore what happened at Slocum and what has been done to never forget the price that was paid in that small Texas town.

The Truth Behind Why The Government Created a Vaccine Court

    in Health

My guest, WAYNE ROHDE, is the author of a very informative book that I highly recommend everyone to read called The Vaccine Court: The Dark Truth of America's Compensation Program.  You may view his book at: http://www.thevaccinecourt.com/.  We will be discussing the real reason why President Ronald Reagan passed the law on November 14, 1986, called the National Childhood Vaccine Injury Act of 1986, restricting the ability of a parent(s) to sue a vaccine manufacturer or pediatrician directly.  Sadly, every vaccine injury or death claim that is filed can no longer be addressed in a civil court with a jury, it must now go through the National Vaccine Injury Compensation Program known as Vaccine Court; no jury, decision is made by a government selected Special Masters.  Please join us live on February 19th at 12:00 P.M. CST.  We will be taking callers at 917-889-8895.

Excessive or reasonable force by police? Special guest- Gabriel "kelo" Baez

    in Motivation

Allegations of the use of excessive force by police departments in America continue to generate media headlines, more than two decades after the 1992 Los Angeles riots brought the issue to mass public attention and prompted law enforcement reforms. In Ferguson, Mo., a St. Louis suburb, the fatal shooting of teenager Michael Brown by a police officer, Darren Wilson, in August 2014 and a grand jury’s decision not to indict Wilson, has continued to trigger unrest and protests. In New York, the July death of Eric Garner because of the apparent use of a “chokehold” by an officer has also sparked outrage. This follows other recent incidents and controversies, including: an April 2014 finding by the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), following a two-year investigation, that the Albuquerque, N.M., police department “engages in a pattern or practice of use of excessive force, including deadly force, in violation of the Fourth Amendment”; and a similar DOJ finding in December 2014 with regard to the Cleveland police department.

Surveys in recent years with minority groups — Latinos and African-Americans, in particular — suggest that confidence in law enforcement is relatively low, and large portions of these communities believe police are likely to use excessive force on suspects. Also joining the discussion was Eric Garner's nephew, Gabriel Reyes. Garner was the man who died in New York City as members of the NYPD tried to arrest him last summer. Garner's nephew spoke with the audience about what he wants to see change within policing in America.
