Julia Ibbotson lives in a renovated Victorian rectory in the English countryside with her husband (four children, now grown up, having fled the nest), along with lots of apple trees, a kitchen garden and far too many moles. She is an author and academic, and loves choral singing, walking, swimming, gardening and cooking (not necessarily at the same time). She started writing as soon as she could hold a pencil in her tiny fist and has not stopped since, much to the bemusement of her long-suffering husband who brings her endless cups of coffee and sometimes even makes the dinner when she is distracted and frowning at her laptop.
She wrote her first novel when she was 10 years old, sadly never published and long since consigned to the manuscript graveyard. She loves writing novels with a strong sense of time and place and that is the basis of her latest, Drumbeats, the first of a trilogy which follows Jess through the trials and tribulations of her life. It starts with Jess on her gap year in Ghana in the 1960s.
Recently she found an old manuscript gathering dust in her drawer, one she had originally scribbled when she was still at school, many years ago. It was a children’s story about a boy who slips through a tear in the fabric of the universe to find himself in a fantasy medieval world. She is currently blowing off the dust and redrafting it for her publishers to let it loose on the world in the autumn. It’s called S.C.A.R.S.
She loves to hear from readers (it’s a pleasant distraction from her steaming keyboard), so do get in touch via the links below.

Jean Houston who is a bit of a cumulative vibration of the wisdom of Margaret Thatcher, the enveloping personality and enthusiasm of Julia Child and the all around strength in looks and character of Wonder woman/ Linda Carter.
The Wizard of Us, explains how to find ourselves in our paths, choices and inner strengths. We realize we never travel far from purpose, and we are only as needy as our own discomfort. Jean explores the obvious lurking withinh each of our souls, and yet she understands how that knowing within, is latent at times it is not always so apparent.
One of my favorite female pioneers whofeels to me , to be a bit of both the wisdom of Margaret Thantcher and authenticity of Julia Child in her warmth and infectious personality.
The Wizard of Us is a wonderful knowing book with much insight into the inner dynamics of what makes you tick.

Join Corrine De Winter & Karen Kaye for a discussion with Dr. Julia Assante- author of "The Last Frontier."
Dr. Julia Assante, the author, is an established social historian of the ancient Near East (PhD Columbia University). Yet for over three decades she has also been an active professional intuitive. In her book, The Last Frontier: Exploring the Afterlife and Transforming Our Fear of Death, she applies the insights and methodologies gained from both fields in order to present a uniquely rigorous investigation of where we go after we die.
"Each person is born with a spiritual and biological faith that is personal, intimate, and optimistic. Real faith springs from innate awareness of our connectedness with all living beings, with nature and All That Is. It requires only that we retrieve that child part in each of us that knows the universe is good. Not good and evil, not even good and bad. Just good. It is knowing that every consciousness is uniquely meaningful and charged with purpose. That survival beyond the body is the only possible outcome. That the afterworld is not about judgment and condemnation. That All That Is is so all-encompassing, so unfathomably compassionate that even forgiveness is dwarfed into insignificance. This faith is what people who have returned from near-death states bring back with them. For the dead it is the ever-present state of grace in which they dwell." -Julia Assante

Welcome to Youth Speak. As I was reflecting on the stories that have been shared this week on Youth Speak, I had a flashback. Many years ago, my niece introduced me to the book called the Indigo Children written by Lee Carroll and Jan Tober. As I glanced through, I knew that these were the children that formed 25% of my first grade class at that time. These children were characterized as those that were here to "break up" the "systems" that were in place at that time, which were not working for the good of all, such as the educational system, health system and political system. In the classroom, they were the children that wanted to be part of the solution to any problem that came up in the classroom. They did not respond well when strict rules attempted to be enforced upon them. After the Indigo Children, the Crystal Children appeared. These children were characterized as having magnetic personalities, highly affectionate and very much connected to animals, nature and sensitivity to the feelings of people.
SO my question is, "Are the amazing acts we are witnessing by extraordinary children today, the results of these Indigo and Crystal children, living life?" AND "What are these children showing us, about how to live?" Is there a lesson for all of us here? These are some of the questions we'll play with today on Youth Speak! Join us. Call in and share your views!
