Tonight's special guest is Brittney Bray, a returning NAASCA family member from New Jersey. A survivor of child abuse who was removed from her family as a teen, she was eventually able to take advantage of the CASA SHaW facility in Somerset, Hunterdon and Warren Counties, and is now enjoying life in recovery. At the age of 15 she was taken away from her family due to her parents' drug abuse and her father's physical abuse towards her. She experienced about 8 different placements from the age of 15 till the age of 16. She was involved with many organizations, including the Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA). At the age of 17 she had her first child. At 18 she married the baby's father and became independent. After her son was born, she was faced with opposition from the child welfare system which did not believe she could succeed as a mother. CASA SHaW was there to support and defend her, helping her to retain custody of her baby. Brittney says, "I have tried to make the best from my difficult past. I am thankful to CASA for continuing to be supportive to me. Today I am 23, I live in my own home, I have 2 healthy and happy children, and I have been happily married for 5 years. I work, and I am planning to go back to school. My parents are in my life, and the relationship I have with them is stronger than ever now. We've all made it to the other side of a bad time."

Tonight's special guest is Tracey Heisler, from New Jersey, executive director of the CASA program in Somerset, Hunterdon and Warren Counties. CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) recruits, screens, trains, and supervises community volunteers to act as advocates in court for children living in the foster care system, giving them a voice that might not otherwise be heard. Mrs. Heisler, herself the mother of 8 children, has degrees in Psychology with an emphasis in Juvenile Justice and Forensics. She came to this work as a result of her mother and uncle's experiences of growing up in the foster care system in upstate New York. It is her life's mission to improve the quality of life for these children while in care and to facilitate their transition to their "forever family," whether through reunification, adoption, or kinship legal guardianship, as quickly as possible. The role of CASA is to advocate for children in out-of-home placement. The CASA is appointed by the Family Court Judge. The volunteer must read all of the child's records and interview people in the child's life and then makes recommendations to the court. All volunteers must be screened, fingerprinted and must agree to a federal, state and local background check before being accepted into a CASA 30 hour training session. All volunteer must be over the age of 21 and be able to provide their own transportation.

Let's explore the notion that dental insurance stops dental disease. When I ask audiences around the country why they have cavities too often they answer Because I don't have dental insurance! Is that true? Does dental insurance stop dental disease? How much does dental insurance cost, how much do preventive dental appointments cost?
According to a press release from Delta Dental: According to a June, 2012 report by the Kaiser Family Foundation, in 2010, 22 percent of low-income adults had gone five years or more without visiting a dentist. Additionally, more than 44 million Americans live in federally-designated Dental Health Professional Shortage Areas, meaning it is difficult for many to access a dentist whether or not they have insurance.
The American Dental Association has a lot of information on direct reimbursement a different way of paying for your dental care.

The Inclusive America Project, run by the Justice and Society Program at the Aspen Institute, seeks to positively engage America’s growing religious diversity in order to build a more pluralistic, inclusive, and harmonious society. The project works through a 25-member Distinguished Panel, which is co-chaired by Hon. Madeleine K. Albright and Prof. David R. Gergen. This past June, the panel released Principled Pluralism, a white paper containing recommendations and best practice examples for advancing religious pluralism in five key sectors: youth development, higher education, media, religiously affiliated organizations, and government agencies.
