Based on Joseph Campbell - Goddesses: Mysteries of the Feminine Divine by Safron

    in Women

While Joseph Campbell “covered the mythological waterfront,” he never wrote a book on the Goddess. However, he had much to say on the subject. Between 1972 and 1986 he gave over twenty lectures and workshops on Goddesses, exploring the figures, functions, symbols, and themes of the feminine divine, following them through their transformations.

These lectures, which are the basis for the new book Goddesses: Mysteries of the Feminine Divine, have been in Campbell’s archival collection since his death in 1987. The material has never been heard or read by anyone other than those who originally attended the lectures. So Goddesses offers completely new, previously unpublished material for new and long-time Campbell fans alike. It is also the only book in Campbell’s collected works that focuses on his ideas and study of goddess mythologies through time and culture.

Edited by today's guest Safron Rossi, PhD, executive director of the Opus Archives and Research Center where Campbell’s archives are housed, Goddesses documents how Campbell’s work from the 1960s to the 1980s showed how the symbolic systems of the older goddess traditions survived in various forms, despite 2,000 years of patriarchal and monotheistic repression in mythologies and religion. “I believe this was one of the ways Campbell was addressing the importance of women finding and articulating what these ancient myths mean for women today, but from women's own perspectives and voices,” says Rossi. “The book also shows that Campbell was not solely focused on the male hero or experience of myth, but also studied and reflected on the feminine divine and goddess traditions.”

Celebrating Women History Month Generosity and Gratitude

    in Education

Acts of generosity, big or small, always generate miracles of life.  Generosity begets generosity and creates a circular flow of compassion and gratitude.  Sharing is the true language of interdependence, and life invites us to be generous both in giving and in receiving.  When we live out of a spirit of sharing, we come to know the full meaning of loving-kindness. Sharing is not to be thought of simply in material terms, for there is also the generosity of judgment, of patience, of forgiveness, of gentle presence. When the law of scarcity is foremost in our thoughts, human nature expresses itself in terms of acquisitive desire.  This need to acquire is built on a fear of lack.  We compete for what we think will run out, what there cannot possibly be enough of:  divine favor, parental love, the affections of others, commodities, natural resources.  We create categories of the chosen and the unchosen, suffer sibling rivalry and jealous murder, and wage war over land, oil and water resources.  The human propensity to possess, and to protect possession, forms the basis of strife and injustice.  Violence grows out of rivalry, and rivalry out of a notion of scarcity.  The truth of the matter is that this passion for acquisition robs us of life.  As Joseph Campbell puts it,  We should not expect good to come to us but rather to flow out from us

    Walking The Spiritual Warrior's Path

    in Spirituality

A-LO-HA!  Greetings and welcome everyone, I’m Lana inviting you to enjoy another session of Dah Coconut Wireless … broadcasting from Station Aloha in the Pacific Northwest.  Good morning … good afternoon … or good evening!

As spiritual warriors, the path that we walk on is narrow … and it is constrained by three kapus, three sacred directives.  Since you have reached that place of knowing, I can offer these kapus to you.

Love all that you see—with humility. In order to love all that we see, this can only come from a place of humility.
Live all that you feel—with reverence. When we live what we feel—what the mythologist Joseph Campbell meant when he said ‘follow your bliss’—this leads us inexorably toward reverence, an active sense of respect. This is the foundation stone of indigenous mind.

Know all that you possess—with discipline. And when we know all that we possess—and this includes what possesses us—we find our self-discipline. We cannot walk the sacred path without discipline.  This is where so many spiritual seekers as well as teachers have stumbled.

When we come from the place of humility, we connect with the energy of compassion.  This allows us to experience the power of aloha—of love.

When we practice acceptance and live what we feel, we are drawn inexorably toward reverence, an active respect for everyone and everything we encounter in life.

And through knowing what we possess, we find our discipline. And in order to discover who we are as well as where we are, self-discipline is essential, because without it, we cannot progress.

We begin to explore the Law of One, then we'll embark on a Self-Healing Ritual, a Ho'oponopono with the many selves that are YOU.
