Choreographer John J Zullo joins host Robin Milling to discuss the new season of John J Zullo Dance/Raw Movement featuring three works inspired by memory. A film student at American University, John saw Bill T. Jones Arnie Zane dance company piece Still Here and discovered the emotional impact dance can achieve.
Referring to the season as his Memory Suite, All What This Do Has You Happened See? Before is about perception and fragments of memory while This Equisite Diversion/Mysterious Skin is about blocked memories and the process of recovery. Six foot glowing plexi-glass panels play with perception as a metaphor for moving through corridors in the mind. The third piece Project XIII explores varying memories through 12 different versions of one movement.
This Equisite Diversion/Mysterious Skin was inspired by Scott Heim's novel Mysterious Skin about two young boys who are sexually exploited. John says, 'it had a really strong impact both in my own personal experiences having been sexually abused at a very young age and then dealing with that.' Also discovering one of his dancers was sexually abused when he was young drove the piece, interpreting moments of the book through movement. John insists it's not a victim piece, but more about navigating through a traumatic experience. The audience will experience it raw and real.

The VOC Nation Radio Network traces its roots back to 2009 in suburban Philadelphia. Bruce Wirt took over the afternoon shift on the Voice America Health and Wellness Network and proclaimed himself, “your new ‘Voice of Choice’ in afternoon radio.” The V-O-C in VOC Nation was born.
Over the next 3 years, Wirt took his act to Philadelphia radio, eventually settling in at independently owned WNJC 1360AM. The VOC Nation Radio Network spun away from WNJC in October 2012 and took to the “cloud”, using their solid fan base to instantly become one of the most listened to mediums on the Internet. In 2014, VOC Nation merged with Brady Hicks' IN THE ROOM Internet Radio Network, giving the combined medium over 50,000 monthly listeners.
VOC Nation Radio streams live programming 7 days a week, and has forged partnerships with BlogTalkRadio, Stitcher Internet Radio, Podomatic, iTunes, and GoDaddy to bring daily live entertainment and downloadable podcasts to listeners worldwide. VOC Nation has over 100,000 twitter followers and has consistently ranked in the top 1% of downloadable podcasts as ranked by Podomatic, and in the top 5% of live streaming programming as ranked by Stitcher Internet Radio.
