BJ Norris Shoot in Ecuador and my first Steel Challenge. Since then, it’s been an incredible ride that I wouldn’t trade for anything. I did make one departure from the shooting sports in 2009 when I decided to enlist in the U.S. Army. Unfortunately, I found out about a previously unknown problem with my lower back during Basic Training, and was discharged in early 2010. Fortunately, it’s not a particularly serious problem, and my main limitation is just not being able to put on a 50 lb ruck and march for 10 miles. In the past couple years, I’ve been very blessed to receive some great support from my sponsors, friends and family that have allowed me to focus on competitive shooting.

    in Radio

Master of the stage, performer for the soul, Eric “EQ” Young is known for his ability to fire up concert crowds with his high-energy passionate vocals and funky bass beats. This consummate musician has a long history of opening for, playing with, and being signed by established names in the business. Today, EQ confirms his place among the constellation of great Bay Area funk stars with the early release of 8 songs from his upcoming CD, “Just 4 You.”

Getting his hands on his first guitar at the age of 8—a gift from his grandfather, that had only three strings, Eric Young taught himself to play by ear. Imitating Sly Stone’s mixture of sound and tight arrangements on that misfit instrument ended up opening a life path to world stages.

Other radio stars of the period had a strong influence on his style, including Larry Graham, leading Young to switch to learning bass and studying music composition. Growing up in the Northern California Bay Area gave Young easy access to live performances of Tower of Power, Sly Stone, Frankie Beverly and Maze, Whispers, The Escovedos, Santana, Pointer Sisters. Their example put pressure on the aspiring star to master his instrument and showmanship, solidifying his vision of becoming a complete entertainer. While bands he auditioned for continued to turn him down, their rejections only fueled his ambition. So deep was his desire to be a performer, only at the request—and belt—of his mother did he finish high school.

Jimmy and Jerome Ali are the twin sons of Brenda and the late Jimmy Ali, Sr., an avid jazz enthusiast and pianist Born in Detroit, Michigan at a time when Barry Gordy's Motown Sound was igniting the world. They embraced R&B music and such great jazz artist as Charlie Parker, Eddie Harris, Stan Getz and Art Blakey.

  • tsuNomination with Danielle Paccione and Bill Bachman - September 22,2015

    in Paranormal

Tonight your hosts Danielle Paccione and Bill Bachman discuss Isla de las Munecas...The Island of the Dolls!

The best-known chinampa in Xochimilco belonged to a man named Julián Santana Barrera, a native of the La Asunción neighborhood. Santana Barrera was a loner, who was rarely seen in most of Xochimilco. He came to fame because he would collect the old broken bodies of dolls from the canals and rubbish trips, and then hang them from branches and tie them to tree trunks to keep away evil spirits and appease the spirit of a dead girl he had found. He would say that he believed that the dolls were somehow still “alive” but forgotten by their owners and at night, these dolls are said to walk around the island killing animals. Before this, it was thought that no one lived on this chinampa, but Santana Barrera was there, living in a hut with no services and generally did not receive visitors, other than family. The display of dolls and parts attracted attention of the press. Eventually, he stated to them that the dolls were there to keep away evil spirits and to help with the harvests in his gardens. His favorite was called La Moneca and he frequently moved the dolls around among the tree branches.

    Carl Johan Calleman: Mayanista Extraordinaire

    in Religion

Calleman first encountered the Mayan calendar on a visit to Mexico and Guatemala in 1979. He became fascinated with the concept of a calendar that had an "end date" and was influenced by the works of Michael D. Coe.

In 1993 he returned to Sweden and devoted himself full-time to researching and writing about the calendar. He published a short book in Swedish on the subject in 1994,Mayahypotesen. In 1998 he was invited to be one of the main speakers at a conference about the Mayan calendar in Mérida, Yucatán. This inspired him to write a more widely accessible book, The Mayan Calendar published in 2001. A second popular book The Mayan Calendar and the Transformation of Consciousness followed in 2004, and a third Purposeful Universe: How Quantum Theory and Mayan Cosmology Explain the Origin and Evolution of Life in 2009.
