Dixon D. White on "White Racial Responsibility" & Racial Healing

    in Politics Progressive

Quite often, there are people who can be described as "a person for a time such as this."

Abraham Lincoln, Frederick Douglass, Harriet Tubman, Sojourner Truth, Susan B. Anthony, Teddy Roosevelt, Rosa Parks, Eleanor Roosevelt, Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Malcolm X and so many others come to mind. Looking back on the context of their times in history, we loft them into super human statuses and forget that they were born like the rest of us and they have died like we all will.

What unites all of these names from our history is the common trait that they had the courage to stand up, speak up and "ACT UP!!"

That last phrase Act Up comes from our featured guest for this episode of The #SocialSpitballShow.

Dixon D. White is a self-described redneck and reformed racist. Dixon has many experiences to draw from to elicit truth about race, which is, in part, that we cannot ignore it away. Dixon calls on fellow White Americans to embrace their "White Racial Responsibility" to speak up and ACT UP when they see racial hurt.

I personally love the term "Act Up" because it makes me think of a child misbehaving, but also the clever bumper sticker that says that "Well-Behaved Women Never Make History." It's true & fitting because we need to step outside of our "comfort zone" of complacency and condoning of a terrible history of racism and violence in this country.

This history of racism and violence manifests itself as much today as in the past. Racism is not over. We need to stand up to racism. With courageous folks like Dixon White speaking up and acting up on the subject, we can be sure to bring more healing and common ground.

Won't you tune in and hear from this amazing & inspiring man and others like him? Barbara and I are excited to get this conversation going...

Klitschko vs. Jennings, Dirrell vs. Jack, Jacobs vs. Truax Review

    in Sports

In the main event of the evening, the WBA, IBF, WBO, and IBO Heavyweight Champion of the world. Wladimir Klitschko (63-3 with 54 KOs) entered the ring to one of the loudest roars from a crowd you may ever hear to face the undefeated Bryant Jennings (19-0 with 10 KOs). Over 17 thousand filled the World’s Most Famous Arena at Madison Square Garden to watch Klitschko fight his 1st fight in the US in over seven year.

The biggest fight on the Wladimir Klitschko vs Bryant Jennings card was a battle between two welterweights as Brooklyn’s own Sadam Ali (21-0 with 13 KOs) squared off against Francisco Santana (22-3-1 with 11 KOs) of Santa Barbara, California. It was a non-title bout of two skilled fighters that had average pop, and it was scheduled to go 10 rounds. Anthony Dirrell and Badou Jack headlined tonight’s “PBC” on Spike live from the UIC Pavilion in Chicago, Illinois. Dirrell was defending his WBC super-middleweight title in his 2015 debut against Jack, who was entering the ring two wins removed from his first loss.Tonight’s “PBC” series broadcast came to us live from the UIC Pavilion in Chicago, Illinois, and it was aired on Spike TV, their second showing of Al Haymon’s brain child. The co-feature offered up Danny Jacobs defending his paper championship against Caleb Truax, a fighter whose only claim to fame is a scored knockdown against Jermain Taylor in a losing effort and a win against Don George.

    Sacred Sunday~Romans 16/Farewell Romans!

    in Religion

Today we read the last Chapter in Romans. Romans 16.

The last bit of the letter consists of some shout outs to Paul's friends in Rome. Talk about name-dropping.
There are about twenty-six names in all, but we'll just hit a few of the biggies:
He first mentions a woman named Phoebe who Paul calls a "deacon." She's probably the person who is carrying his letter from Corinth to Rome.
There's a married couple—Prisca and Aquilla—who have stuck their necks out for Paul lots of times.
And Andronicus and Junia, a Jewish couple who were in prison with Paul and whom he calls "prominent among the apostles."
Then Paul takes a break from his "hellos" to drop in a warning: watch out for false prophets. They don't follow Christ and they're only out for themselves. They're pretty good at tricking people into following them, though. So—eternal vigilance!
Back to greetings! Paul puts in a few hiyas from the folks in Corinth. Timothy, Lucius, Jason, Sosipater, Tertius, Gaius, Erastus, and Quartus all say hello.
Lastly, Paul gives one final shout out to God. He brings strength to all Christians through the good news of Jesus Christ. He has revealed a super-secret mystery to us so that now everyone—Jew and Gentile—can share in his Godly goodness.
Amen and done! A big thank you to those at www.shmoops.com!

HOW TO PERFORM A CHRISTIAN EXORCISM.

    in Religion

Many individuals and families are troubled by demonic possession -- as by a malevolent, super-natural power -- over an individual person, object, dwelling etc. But, there are steps one can take for casting out such demons. This process is called an exorcism or deliverance, in the Christian way. Other religions or beliefs have their own way to exorcise
