Hosted by BGC founder Marcie L. Thomas, in honor of Black Music Month, this show features three unique women who are doing it big on the music scene in 2014.

Dominique Toney, a singer-songwriter, and actress from Los Angeles, CA, whose musical journey began at the age of 6. Through of a variety of challenges and triumphs, she is now preparing for the release of her debut album “A Love Like Ours” on August 12th. See her video for "Loving You's So Easy" here.
JJ Thames, a soulful singer-songwriter from Detroit who currently makes her home in Jackson, MS, discovered her love of the blues at an early age and has been touring the land sharing her special brand of fire with live audiences. She recently released her first single, "Tell You What I Know," which reached #1 on Billboard Hot Single sales chart and stayed in the top 10 for 15 weeks! Chelsey Green, brings the vibrancy of the acoustic violin to audiences in a whole new way. J.J. Thames was raised in a blue-collar family.
J.J. began performing at the tender age of 9 years old, and became a blues- shouting banshee by the time she was just 18 years old.
She cut her teeth after moving down to Jackson, MS. Where she began to perform with the celebrated "Chitlin' Circuit superstars like; Marvin Sease.
J.J. and I will explore her roots and check out tunes from her album, Tell You What I Know.
Ken Chester "Sugar Brown" Kawashima was born in Bowling Green Ohio.
His attachment to the Blues came while he studied at the University of Chicago by day and prowled the blues clubs at night, backing artists such as Taildragger and "Big Eyes" Smith.
He now lives in Toronto, and his latest album is entitled Sugar Borwns Sad Day and Sugar and I will chat about his journey to where he is today while we listen to tunes from the album.
Polly O'Keary began playing music in bars in Mexico at 16, and after a early rock career that included a record deal, she fell in love with blues at 28.
She was first named Washington Blues Society Female Vocalist of the Year in 2004, and has won it twice more since then.
Her first and second albums were well-reviewed, and the second was named Album of the Year by the WBS, and Polly was named Songwriter of the Year.
She spent time touring with Too Slim & The Taildraggers and is now back in the Northwest with a new trio. Polly and I will discuss her career and listen to songs from her latest, Compass.
Tweed Funk originally came to The Couch back in April of 2012. They return with their new album, First Name Lucky and we will find out what the band has in store for 2014 while we listen to cuts form the album.

J. J. Fad is a rap group from Rialto, California about 45 minutes east of Los Angeles, California whose name stands for Just Jammin Fresh and Def and were backed by Clarence "DJ Train" Lars. J.J. Fad gained popularity with the line-up that included rappers: MC J.B. (Juana Burns), Baby-D (Dania Birks), and Sassy C. (Michelle Franklin).
The group's Most notable hit was 1988's "Supersonic," which made J.J. Fad the first female rap group to earn a Grammy nomination. In 2006 Fergie (Black Eyed Peas) used it for her song entitled " Fergalicious", which went 5 times platinum and put J.J. Fad back to the forefront. They now are touring around the Nation doing Old School Shows and guest appearances.

On this week's Into The Unknown Realm, we go a little unparanormal! Joining us is Michelle Franklin, aka "Sassy C" from all girls rap group, J.J. Fad best know for their single SUPERSONIC! J. J. Fad was the first female rap group to earn a Grammy nomination, and both the single "Supersonic" and the album Supersonic were certified gold. In 2006, Fergie used an interpolation of "Supersonic" in her song "Fergalicious", while in 2013 Eminem referenced J. J. Fad and "Supersonic" in his single "Rap God".
Meet The Hosts
Steve and Naomi are from the paranormal group S.T.U.R.S., which stands for Seeking the Unknown Realm Society. Steve is the founder of S.T.U.R.S. and Naomi is an investigator. The group was started in October of 2010. STURS has investigated many locations throughout New England, including The Houghton Mansion in North Adams, MA, The Haunted Victorian in Gardner, MA, The Governors Inn Hampton Falls, NH, The Paine House in Coventry, MA and best known for their appearance on A&E's My Ghost Stories for their story on the investigation of The Seacoast Repertory Theatre in Portsmouth, NH. Steve and Naomi also perform together singing which includes performing live at the 2013 Paranormal Awards, which STURS was a nominee for the 2013 EVP Of The Year Award.
