Born and raised in Montego Bay Jamaica, It was always a pleasure for him to listen to the radio and try to be like the on air personality. Little that he knew that this would become his hobby that would stay in his blood. Donovan Longmore migrated to the United States of America in the early 80’s and was totally surprised at the difference in the music. Nevertheless, he would try to keep up with all the latest tunes from the few record stores that carry Reggae Music. There were limited amount of reggae on the air and people at the big stations were giving the music a fight. He would take every opportunity he gets to check out the latest shows that comes to Hartford, CT. where he is currently a resident. As the years go by, there were some improvements in the music being played on the air.
More dj’s were added and more stations started playing a little more on the non Reggae programs. But this was still a short cry from what the West Indian community needed. He (Donovan Longmore) was a sophomore in college when he decided to something about the situation. He started to visit each dj’s program so he can get a taste of how the whole system works. From the very first day I was hooked. Said Donovan. It was then that he hooked up with Mikey Chong at Central Connecticut State University. His show was just strictly Roots and Culture, Donovan wanted to bring more flavor like Lovers Rock and Dancehall. The year was 1989, I was finally a radio personality on WFCS 97.9fm said Donovan. He (Donovan) was ready to let the whole world know more about Reggae Music. The audience loved it, he had every listener begging for more.
On NiACOM Expressions, Donovan Longmore tonight @ 7pm CST. Listen in tonight!
