LAURA JOHNSTON KOHL
Laura Johnston Kohl grew up as an activist in Washington, D.C., and watched as many of her heroes were assassinated in the 1960s. While she was in high school and college, John Kennedy, Bobby Kennedy, Martin Luther King, Malcolm X, and others were killed. That had a huge impact on her. She attended college in Connecticut and continued her commitment to work for change and to make a difference. While exercising her civil rights to protest peacefully, she was tear-gassed while protesting the war in Viet Nam. After a brief marriage, a visit to Woodstock, and a stint working with the Black Panthers, she moved to California to join her sister.
Soon after that, she was introduced to Peoples Temple and spent the next nine years in California and Guyana. She was away from Jonestown on the day when 913 of her friends and family died. The next twenty years were spent recovering, and rebuilding her life
November 18, 1978, was a tragically unprecedented day in U.S. history that will forever be woven into the fabric of this country. It is the day that leader of Peoples Temple (PT), James Warren Jones, ordered the assassination of U.S. Congressman Leo J. Ryan and others at the Port Kaituma airstrip in South America, then led his congregation on what Guyana's police chief, Skip Roberts, testified was a "mass suicide." Decades later, however, the depth of this story is still unknown, and many scholars and former members who have continued their exploration of the incidents have found that there is still plenty of evidence as well as plenty of sinister connections that contradict the official version of this story. Jonestown: "Don't Drink the Kool-Aid" is the chronological story of the rise and fall of Peoples Temple and its leader Jim Jones-from his early years in Indianapolis and California, to the tragic ending in the jungle of South America that claimed the lives of 918 Americans. Jonestown: "Don't Drink the Kool-Aid" comprehensively details the many links that Jones and his compound had with the CIA and their MKULTRA experiments. Through a comprehensive analysis of Jones' life, Peoples Temple, and the investigation and the aftermath of the mass murder/suicides; this book is designed to be the quintessential marking piece that will re-introduce this story to society and serve as a reminder of the infamous mantra that hung in the pavilion in Jonestown: "Those who forget the past are condemned to repeat it." JONESTOWN: DON'T DRINK THE KOOLAID-The Complete Story Behind the Mysterious Jim Jones and His Exodus to Guyana-Will Savive

In 2010 he started his own recruitment and consulting firm. Saw a need for business owners to understand and learn how to take control of their recruiting and stop being victims of it. What used to work doesn't anymore - in fact it can hurt your business. And your people are the key to a successful business. After watching countless clients and friend waste thousands of dollars and week’s worth of time using outdated and useless recruitment strategies to hire the best of the worst he decided to teach companies how to Target, Engage and Hire the best people for their business.

We will be blessed to have Jonestown Survivor Laura Johnston Kohl with us. She will be sharing her experience in the most dangerous cults in history. She is one of 87 survivors who escaped the Jim Jones Jonestown compound alive. Understanding is invaluable to help us understand modern day cults. Join in the conversation as we take a journey back in time to experience the horror of cult mind control.
How does one man, ostensibly insane, develop a following of over one-thousand and start a colony in middle of a dense jungle? Where did he get the money? What was he really like? How could he have built a fully staffed, state-of-the-art medical facility, grow food, generate electricity, etc. in the middle of one of the most hostile environments in the world -- if he was crazy? Is "was" the right tense to use, or is it possible he did not die in Guyana?
One thing is for sure, the official story just does not make sense. Bob will explore these and many more disturbing questions about the People's Temple and Jim Jones.
