Today I am speaking with Jillian Darlington creator and founder of the MomCo App. She is a single mom, former small business owner and entrepreneur here in San Diego. Check out Jillian's Kickstarter Campaign.
Being a full time mom to my son and getting to spending time with my friends and their children was something that meant so much to me and made me so happy, I was unwilling to give it up for a 9 to 5 job. Fate intervened at that time when a girlfriend told me that my favorite indoor playground was for sale. I got a loan and put in an offer that same week. I owned Play Town for almost 4 years. Owning my own business gave me the flexibility to be with my son as much as I needed to be and I got to spend my work time with children and parents. I got to keep my world intact. Helping parents and making children happy seems to be what I do best and nothing makes me happier.
Recently a couple of events have inspired me to create the MomCo App. I have lost a number of my close friends due to geographical moves. Their families have grown so they have had to move to larger houses or their husbands jobs were relocated, leaving me and my son behind. This brought up two things; I needed to make some more friends close by and a lot of my friends have also been struggling to make new friends since their moves. I knew the technology existed to meet people through Apps so I thought, “Why not build an App so moms no longer have to struggle to meet other moms close by?” With the MomCo App you can effortlessly find and connect with other moms close by. The service provider side of the App comes from also knowing the needs of a new mom to find out what resources and services are available to them. The goal of the MomCo App is to make being a mom easier, plain and simple.
