He Said, on Next Steps Radio

    in Books

February and April are He Said/She Said months on Next Steps Radio!

Does gender count when it comes to writing thrillers? Are there differences between the two sets of authors and the books they write? And the biggie: is one gender more likely to be successful than the other?

First up, the men. Please join host and award-winning suspense novelist Jenny Milchman as she talks to three male authors about whether sex matters.

Matthew FitzSimmons was born in Illinois and grew up in London, England. He now lives in Washington, DC, where he taught English literature and theater at a private high school for over a decade. THE SHORT DROP, a political kidnapping conspiracy thriller, is his first novel.

Barry Lancet’s third book in his award-winning international thriller series featuring Jim Brodie is PACIFIC BURN. Previous books are JAPANTOWN (Barry Award Winner) and TOKYO KILL (Shamus Award Finalist). Lancet divides his time between Japan and California.

After graduating with a Journalism degree from the University of Oklahoma, Tim Washburn spent several years working in the television business both in Oklahoma City and Little Rock, Arkansas. His first book, POWERLESS, deals with a geomagnetic solar storm that destroys every power grid in the northern hemisphere, flinging the human race back to the Dark Ages.

Ep 135: Jenny Johnston on Tapping into Past Lives

    in Books

Join Dr. Angela Lauria as she interviews author Jenny Johnston in the publishing of her book Tapping into Past Lives.

Author Jenny picked this particular topic for her book because she's very passionate about it in relation to Quantum EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques). She prepared for the writing months beforehand and had her students write about their own experiences. Her spiritual travels in many countries also provided experiences that were perfect for the book So she had plenty to draw upon and all she had to do was put everything in order for the book manuscript.

Now recognized as a best-selling author, her worldwide exposure has made more people interested in attending her workshops and private sessions.

Guest on The Process319 Unleashed Comedian Willie Brown

    in Religion

It is an honor to have as my guest this week comedian and entrepreneur Wilie Brown. You don't want to miss this phenomenal young man and his journey to minister the word through comedy.

You don’t know how funny Willie Brown & Woody are until you see them live. They’re not just your average comedian/ventriloquist team. Brown takes a different approach to the age old craft by making it fresh, new, & hip for today’s more savvy comedy audiences. It’s not just about seeing him not moving his lips, & hearing Woody speak. “It’s about the jokes”, says Brown. After watching this act for a few moments you forget that Willie is there and it seems as if Woody transcends into a standup comedian on his own. Willie does the set up and Woody gives the punch! Willie Brown is a nationally known ventriloquist who has appeared several times on BET Comic View, HBO DEF Comedy Jam, Loco Comedy Jam, Phaturdays, The Jenny Jones Show, & most recently in a recurring role on the Showtime Network series “Barbershop”. From topics such as family, church, how to deal with the homeless, to current events, Willie Brown & Woody bring it.

~ Today I found out the difference between a Mule and a Jackass ~!

    in Higher Education

Mules, are a cross between a female horse and a male donkey or “jack” (hence the word “jackass”).   In contrast, a male horse and a female donkey bred together produces a “hinny”; the name coming from the fact that a female donkey is called a “jenny”, bred with a h-orse.  The offspring of this breeding is very similar to a mule, as you might expect, though generally slightly smaller, which is thought to be because of the smaller womb in a donkey over a horse.

If you ever wondered why anyone in an agricultural setting would want an animal like the mule that can’t reproduce, it’s simply because, in a lot of ways, a mule is superior to both a donkey and a horse, taking many of the best traits of each.

The U.S. army still uses mules to carry supplies in Afghanistan in places where the terrain is particularly rugged.

“Mule” comes from the Old French “mul”, which in turn comes from the Latin “mulus”, both meaning “mule”.  As to where that Latin word came from, nobody knows. ~huh~?

Zebras and donkeys can breed together, creating a “zonkey”.  Generally such breeding takes place between female donkeys and male zebras as domestic female zebras’ breeding schedules tend to be booked for creating purebred zebras, unlike female donkeys who are much more numerous.
While mules are almost always sterile, they have been successfully cloned, the first of which was in 2003 at the University of Idaho in conjunction with Utah State University.
