From "The Amazing Race" to "The Great Human Race" with "Raw Travel" and Dominica

    in Travel

Phil Keoghan is host of the multi Award-winning reality show, "The Amazing Race".  We talked to Phil about how the show mirrors his life, his passion for travel and his commitment to give back to others.   Phil also shared how a near death experience inspired his mantra to leave "No Opportunity Wasted".

Robert Rose is the executive producer and host of the popular show "Raw Travel".  The show integrates voluntourism, social responsibility and philanthropy with pure raw travel.  Robert escaped the corporate jungle a few years ago and began sharing the gift of travel with others.  We'll talk about our mutual passions for travel, social responsibility, his recent trip to Africa and our interest in connecting with our global community.

The Caribbean Island of Dominica is legendary for its unspoiled beauty but the island is more than a pretty face with pristine waters.  Dominica Tourism Director, Colin Piper says that Dominica also offers a rich blend cultures including the only remaining population of pre-Columbian Carib Indians.

National Geographic's show, "The Great Human Race" explores the evolution of mankind from Africa to the United States.  Co-host and outdoor survival guide, Cat Bigney, traverses the globe uncovering mysteries and testing survival skills using only the tools that early man used.  Along the way, Cat reaffirmed that we all share a common humanity and that even a smile can overcome language barriers.

LIVE! with Cathi...Islands where traditions loom large.

    in Fitness

In the Caribbean, traditions loom large in three small islands.  Folk Cultures thrive far away from the tourist hordes. Dominica-Tobago-Anguilla.  The lesser known islands in the Caribbean whose virtues are unsung.

DOMINICA-where carnival is a holiday and is what it was meant to be, a celebration.  Tuesday is carnival day, a sea of traditional costumes made from strips of frayed paper.  In DOMINICA the island prides itself on staying true to it's 18th century roots.

TOBAGO-mermen come calling.  There are no mermaids in TOBAGO folk lore.

    ANGUILLA- the monarchy of goats.

    STAY TUNED...

    Pre-lent...etc.

    West African folk lore...etc.

Mermen, where did they come from...etc.

    For centuries, GOATS have...etc.

    Carnival-Mermen and Goats...etc.

Actor & DJ - Azmyth Kaminski

    in Entertainment

You may recognize Azmyth from this popular commercial:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Afufjv_6-t4

But he has done so much more than just this.....Azmyth Kaminski started out as a DJ.  Little did he know that a new career path would blindside him very soon. A fateful meeting in late 2007 led him to Sande Alessi's office after being told he had a great pirate look. They were presently casting Pirates Of The Caribbean 3. Two weeks later he had a fitting & was working at the Disney ranch in the opening scene. His 1st break came immediately as he got chosen out of 500 pirates to be featured as 1 of 21 pirates who would actually be hung at the gallows. At the beginning of 2008, he was slipped into a casting for a new Mark Burnett reality show called Pirate Master. During this last round of Nation-wide casting he was selected as 1 of 16 members to take this undiscovered journey to the island of Dominica where the show was filmed. He did extremely well on the show as the most feared competitor, alas strategy got the better of him & he was cut adrift during episode 9.During this whirlwind period of a crash course in acting, he also began picking up pieces of producing. Although modeling is often about  staying attractive, he couldn't help enjoying stunts that he had performed himself. He found a new love in performing his own stunts where possible during his acting roles & other castings. Since he was helping out on so many projects he began helping cast actors & models as well. At this point he decided to create his present company Manifest Station. These days you can find Azmyth DJ'ing for television shows & focusing efforts mainly in the production realm on music videos, commercials & upcoming feature films. But don't be surprised if you hear him on the radio soon or catch him waltzing across your TV screen in your very own home.

Helping The Island Of Dominica After Tropical Storm Erika’s Wrath

    in Current Events

Quick geography lesson.  The Dominican Republic and Dominica are NOT one in the same. The Dominican Republic is on the island of Hispanola and is right next to Haiti.  Dominica is a separate Caribbean island/country that was devastated by the wrath of tropical storm Erika on August 27th.

Dominica now lies tattered but unbowed, and needs your help. The storm caused severe flooding and mudslides and killed at least 20 people. More than 50 people are still missing.

A group of Dominican-Americans have now joined forces in an effort to help their native land, while working with the government to help rebuild shattered communities.

On today’s show we’ll talk with Pastor Cuthbert Joseph, the official spokesperson for Boston for Dominica who will discuss what happened last month and how we can help.

It’s a show where your compassion will be appreciated and welcomed.
