The Amazin' Avenue Audio Holiday Special

    in Baseball

After a long, hard year of talking about New York Mets baseball, Jeffrey decided to get himself an early Christmas present and commandeered the podcast to talk about a few of his favorite things. Fortunately one of those things *is* still Mets baseball (for now), and with the recent Troy Tulowitzki rumors it seemed only logical that Steve Schreiber, president of the Tulo Fan Club, would join the show. After that it's pro wrestling talk with Steve Sypa, a lengthy discussion of The Mountain Goats oevure with baseball writer (and angry Oriole bird) Jonathan Bernhardt, we drink some bourbon and chat about it with bartender Robert Juall, and wrap up a very long podcast on a very late night discussing Sheffield Wednesday with fellow New York Owl, Mark Hugo. There's a prize if you make it to the very end, but absolutely no one will hold it against you if you don't. Cheers!

Hybrid Jazz From Trish Hennessey - with Kristin Callahan!

    in Music

In the ten years that yours truly has been in Baltimore (this time around!), there are some significant talents that stand out. And always will.  Some of the musicianship has been more than stellar.  Let's call it haunting.  And that is the case with the voice of Kristin Callahan.

Singing since she could speak, the vocal ability that Kristin has is worn like a second skin.  She's comfortable singing - and it doesn't matter what genre.  Though her golden throat lends itself naturally to Jazz and the Great American Songbook.  And one wonders what's in Kristin's future - because if this is the beginning of her career and she's so good NOW - have mercy - what the heck else should we expect?!

Encouraged by both church and school early on, our Maryland Girl found herself in Washington, D.C.  Under the tutelage of respected pianist and educator, Vince Evans.  Vince was able to steer Kristin in a direction that felt both comfortable and challenging.  And that challenge is something that she relishes.  Her first project dropped in 2009, "A New Love."  Last year, we heard the evolving bliss of Kristin with "One Magic Day."  Some of the best in Baltimore and D.C. joined her on these 14 songs.  Including Warren Wolf on vibraphone - and Vince Evans (of course!) on piano :)

Kristin's got an amazing opportunity to shine on 12/21/14.  She's at the Chesapeake Arts Center - the same place where we last saw Jeffrey Osborne.  She'll dip into both of her albums, some holiday tunes (no doubt!), and possibly give us a sneak preview of her forthcoming CD - which takes her into a new direction.  2015 should be QUITE interesting for our guest!

What a pleasure to share Kristin with you again - we had a lot of fun the first time that she visited!  12/16 at 3 p.m. Eastern - join us :)

    Episode 97: Yes...it's...Shortstop Avenue Audio

    in Baseball

In the "“The Podcast is also cursed. That’s bad, but it comes with your choice of shortstops. That’s good! The shortstops contain potassium benzoate. Uh… That’s bad” edition, after a series of calamities befell our hosts (including a dead cell phone during the Rule 5 draft), Greg and Jeffrey finally get around to recording a podcast. There isn't much more to talk about than there was last week, but there is the John Mayberry, jr signing, a Rule 5 draft recap, and the final Shortstop Avenue Audio of 2014 to cover. There is also a terrible cocktail of the week and a whole bunch of your e-mails. See you in 2015! (unless the Mets do something big in 2014, so see you in 2015)
