Tune in for another Historic Segement with one of Detroit's music Legends MELVIN DAVIS!!
Excerpt taken from DETROIT METRO TIMES
By Michael Hurtt

It's easy to overlook, or not hear, Davis' vast musical contributions, because this giant was unjustly somewhat under the radar in the '60s and early '70s radio mainstream. But he was certainly there all along. He's the impossibly funky drummer behind guitarist Dennis Coffey and organist Lyman Woodard on the legendary, sample-worthy single "River Rouge"/"It's Your Thing"; the evocative lead vocalist on the 8th Day's AM soul staple "You've Got to Crawl (Before You Walk)"; the songwriter who penned J.J. Barnes' desperate ode "Chains of Love," which — in the hands of Detroit rock band the Dirtbombs — served as the musical centerpiece of the 2007 Julian Schnabel art-house film The Diving Bell and the Butterfly. Songwriter royalties aside, Davis is still not a household name.
On Monday, 1st February, at 8 pm ET Radio Free South Africa will interrupt our regular South African programming to pay tribute to LeVoy Finicum, savagely murdered in cold blood.
Patricia Aiken from Sacred Cow BBQ and Will Johnson will be unravelling the media and government lies about this ambush and murder.
Robert LaVoy Finicum was born on January 27, 1961 in Kanab, UT and was murdered the day before his 55th birthday on January 26, 2016. LaVoy was born to David and Nelda Finicum and had six siblings, Sherre, Guy, Jody, Jill, Misty, and Tadi. LaVoy was married to Dorthea Jeanette Finicum on February 18, 1994 and together they have eleven children, Thara, Belle, Tell, Tawny, Arianna, Brittney, Mitch, Thomas, Challice, Danielle, and Tean. Combined they have 19 grandchildren with three more on the way.
LaVoy went to school in Page Arizona. He served a full time mission in the Dakotas for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints of which he was a faithful member his whole life. He served in many church positions; among them: the Young Men’s program, Ward Mission leader, Elders Quorum president, a High Priest leader and a member of the Bishopric. LaVoy worked many years in property management but his passions were helping children and ranching. LaVoy had over 50 foster boys whom he was able to have in his home and mentor over the course of the past 19 years. He loved working on his ranch and teaching his children how to ride horses, brand cows, and most of all, to follow Christ. LaVoy loved God, his family, and his country. He believed that the Constitution of the United States was inspired by God and he was willing to, and did, die while defending our freedoms stated within.

Moms are a special breed, and everyone has that one reason why their own mom is unequivocally and undeniably their mother. And that reason is: life lessons. There are big things and small things we learn from our mothers., but when it comes to the advice our moms give us, it all makes a difference, no matter how complicated or simple. For example moms teach their daughters how to walk in high heels.
"For guys, moms are a great example of what to look for in a woman when dating. They work so hard every day to support their children but they also have careers and a husband to share their lives with. I think they exude what to look for in a life partner who can balance all of those things and above all else, be a caring and supportive person. They can also teach their sons how to treat a woman in a respectable manner. In a tribute to some of the life lessons we learned from my mom Jeanette Davis who just passed away. We talk about why it's always important to listen to your mother.
