Americans all across the country are now or are about to have the opportunity to vote. But will they?
Today we will be discussing voter participation in America with two experts in the field: Tomas Lopez, Brennan Center for Justice, and Rob Richie, Executive Director of FairVote.org Center for Voting and Democracy.
According to The Brennan Center for Justice: ince the 2010 election, new voting restrictions are slated to be in place in 22 states; in 15 states, 2014 will be the first major federal election with these new restrictions in place; the courts will play a crucial role in 2014, with ongoing suits challenging laws in seven states. Voting restrictions for the most part have to do with voter identification.
Laws to improve the election system and increase voting access passed in 16 states since 2012, and these laws will be in effect in 11 states this November. The most common improvements were online registration and other measures to modernize voter registration, and increased early voting.
According to FairVote: voter turnout in the US fluctuates in national elections, but has never risen to levels of most other well-established democracies. In countries with compulsory voting, turnout hovered near 90% in the 2000s. Other countries, experienced turnout rates near 80%. Overall, the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) countries experience turnout rates of about 70%, while in the US, about 60% of the voting eligible population votes during presidential election years, and about 40% votes during midterm elections.

There is no area of reputation or esteem that Canada has suffered more from the Harper junta than Foreign Affairs. Canada used to be on the UN Security Council. Canada used to be in the UN Human Rights Commission. Canada used to be known as a peacekeeper nation, a fair broker, an honorable player. Like so many things to Canadians, those days are gone. Emperor being in New York the very day of a major summit at the UN, and he chooses to lunch with corporate elite and drop more information about Canada than he does when in Canada. Minister of Bellowing and Foreign Affairs John Baird addressing the General Assembly's empty chairs. Minister of Unemployment and Multidivision Jason Goering being himself, tweeting manufactured facts. The plain truth is, the world doesn't care what these hacks have to say.
Now we have a chance for Emperor to play the "at war" PM, since he was so disappointed we missed out on Iraq in 2003. Polls having nothing to do with it, of course. The dichotomy of the Harper position on Ukraine, Sri Lanka, China, West Africa, the list goes on. Without even mentioning the "Likud can do no wrong" position from this gang. Where do these decisions lead Canada? And where are the other parties on this?

Foreign Affairs has been a subject not delved into on the show adequately. Join Kyle and myself and we will look into the damage done to Canada on the international stage by this rogue administration.

This week, we're bringing you a special roundtable interview with the artists on the upcoming Bands On The Run Tour - Doc Walker, The Road Hammers, and Blackjack Billy.
Doc Walker is dropping their eighth studio album - appropriately titled The 8th - on Oct. 21st, featuring the already-hit singles "That's How I Like It" and "Shake It Like It's Saturday Night." It's the band's first full-length without longtime member Murray Pulver, so we'll talk about readjusting to life on the road and how the new material will take shape on the stage.
As for the Road Hammers, their record Wheels has been doing well since dropping earlier this year. Frontman Jason McCoy talks about some of the differences between performing as a member of the trio vs. his solo tours and a lot more. Noll Billings, vocalist with Blackjack Billy, also weighs in on the band's experiences in Canada thus far and what they're anticipating for this upcoming run with their friends.
Finally, in CM Academy, we speak with James Boyle, the current executive director of the Halifax Pop Explosoin, who's getting ready for his first run at the helm. The lineup this year features acts like Against Me!, Danny Brown, and our Nov/Dec 2014 cover artists, Zeds Dead.
