A Kind Voice on Books: Interview with Vincent Serritella

    in Lifestyle

Join us Wednesday, April 13, at 7:00PM EST as Erin Rae gets a chance to discuss "52 Pick Up", with its author, Vincent Serritella. Vincent has devoted an entire year to an art project in which he donates one finished work to a local business each week. These works of art are free to anyone who wants to take them, with a single caveat: To collect the piece of art, the participant must do one thing to benefit or support the local business which holds the art work. We're excited to explore the details of Vincent's project, the book he wrote about it, and how his year long experiment brought the members of the community, both the local business owners and the people who patronize their shops, together. We're also looking forward to speaking with Vincent about which books he wants to recommend to our listeners, so we can add his favorites to the list we keep on our group page on goodreads.com. You can call in to our live broadcast with your own questions for Vincent at 347-850-8907, or you can email your input to us at books@akindvoice.org. We love to hear from you,so let us know what you're thinking!

Art Critic James Cooper on the Culture Wars

    in Art

What are the culture wars and how can we win them? Join us as noted art scholar and critic James Cooper talks about art and culture today.

James Cooper is an art scholar and noted critic. He is the Founding Director of the Newington-Cropsey Cultural Studies Center. He is the Editor of American Arts Quarterly. He is the author of several books, including The Hudson River School and the Moral Landscape.  Mr. Cooper served on the President’s Committee for National Standards for Arts Education K-12. He has been a vocal critic of government funding  to the arts. He was the first to challenge the obscenity, lack of quality of grants awarded by the National Endowment for the Arts.  Subsequently he was appointed to serve as a juror on several juries for the National Endowment for the Arts, and met with many congressmen. Cooper believes that EXCELLENCE and BEAUTY are the criteria for public art and education, not political correctness or propaganda.
