    When is enough enough?

    in Self Help

With all the problems the US is facing how can we afford to take care of other people's children and problems.  We don't have answers for ourselves; why and how can we take care of others?

This is a battle cry from the people who have earned the right to be hear.  I cannot speak for the legal immigrants but I can speak as a third generation American.  We have a responsibility to be responsible so that we can teach our children to be responsible.

Being responsible humans does not mean being a dumping ground for the world's illiterate poor.  We have our own problems that have been left unaddressed or under addressed and it is time to draw that line in the sand.

For those who think taking a stand is becoming xenophobic or isolationist you couldn't be more uninformed.  America has only such much resources and they are now stretched beyond our ability to support.

Please come to the table with some offers of solution and force our elected officials to do the job for which they were elected!  If they are unable or unwilling to do the job lets have a referendum and vote for new leaders to steer a new course.  Drastic require drastic measures and with great power comes great responsibility.

We don't need people who are only concered about getting re-elected or concern about what their party stands for we need people who think for themselves and are willing to take the heat.

    This is my battle cry!

    Think of the (Refugee) Children!

    in Politics Progressive

Up here in blue-ish Massachusetts, we're comfortable with compassion and empathy as American traits. Our governor, Deval Patrick, is one of the few saying to treat the influx of Central and South American kids as refugees.

We find it shocking that so many Americans are xenophobic and isolationist. So many want to pull up the immigrant ladder now they, their parents and grandparents have gotten the embrace of the nation.

We'll consider the humanitarian aspects, the economics and of course the politics.

    Mississipotamia Burning

    in Politics Conservative

RINOs spent millions thwarting a conservative candidate again. They won't curtail government or illegal Executive power; they merely want to control it. They employ Democrat-machine politics to suppress conservative votes and court Democrat ‘welfare’ voters. The Mississippi runoff is merely the most recent and egregious of this and proves the GOP is NOT conservative and has no respect for the Constitutional.

This is especially true when it comes to Mesopotamia (Iraq) while the GOP at least gives lip service to restoring Constitutional government, domestically they show no fiscal restraint in matters of foreign policy. The RINOs are beating the war drums for Iraq War III as they accuse anyone who calls for Constitutional restraint of being an isolationist, they are in fact the ones isolating us. The corporatist media including the anti-war left and ‘conservatives' are fully behind the jingoism.

Between Mississippi election and Mesopotamian War we ignore the financial avalanche inevitably crashing below our feet. Out of bounds government engaged in tyranny at home and abroad is only possible with limitless money and a confused, apathetic and fearful populace.  Mississipotamia is burning; will you fight the fires, or sit back and allow the arsonists who cause the fires to lull you into giving up all your liberty in the vain hope they’ll put the fires out?

Tyranny is assured UNLESS liberty-lovers set aside their differences and band together against the rising tide of collectivism. Grassroots MUST work together to ensure the restoration of constitutionally limited government–it is up to you. End the imperialist police state and to defeat the Democrat-Socialists, first you MUST CRUSH the RINOs, for liberty!

    S03/E07:Military Industrial Complex-Murderous War Profiteers

    in Politics Progressive

At war 214 out of her 237 calendar years of existence. We never gone a decade without war. The only time without war was the isolationist period of the Great Depression from 1935 to 1940.
    Eisenhower warned about the MIC:
"A vital element in keeping the peace is our military establishment. Our arms must be mighty, ready for instant action, so that no potential aggressor may be tempted to risk his own destruction..."
"...In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the Military Industrial Complex. The potential for the disasterous rise of misplaced power exists, and will persist..."
"Only an alert and knowledgable citizenry can compel the proper meshing of the huge industrial and military machinery of defense with our peaceful methods and goals so that security and liberty may prosper together."

Race, Rule and Ruin: A conversation with Geoff Kabaservice

    in Politics

While the ignorant are condemned to merely repeat history, the historian suffers a kind of dual condemnation. Not only must he repeat history along with the rest of us, but he must do so with full knowledge of the implications of our mistakes - sort of like being a character in a movie for which one knows the plot. The historian knows that we will need a 'bigger boat' before we go out on the small one. He knows that the idyllic campsite  is actually the hunting ground of a sadistic killer before the weekend romp begins. The historian knows that the monster will break its leash and turn on its creator whether that  monster be Frankenstein or infected zombies or the Tea Party, which brings me to Mr. Kabaservice and his book 'Rule and Ruin'.

"Rule and Ruin" chronicles the far right conservative takeover of the Republican Party and the subsequent decline of the moderate Republican. Prior to the 1960s the Republican Party was somewhat ideology diverse , often challenging Democrat excesses or inaction in areas like national defense, civil liberties and civil rights but the. Republicans had been isolationist through much of the 1930s, balking at the notion of involving the US in another European war. By the 1960s the Republican presidential candidate was entertaining the idea of using nuclear weapons against the Viet Cong. Republicans challenged Woodrow Wilson's Sedition Act 1918, arguing that it was unconstitutional. By the early 1970s the Republican president was spying on all kinds of protest groups. Republicans were instrumental in passing the first Civil Rights bill since Reconstruction in 1957, but by 1964 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. considered a vote for the Republican presidential candidate to be "suicidal".

The decline of moderation has implications for us today. Geoff was kind enough to speak with me at length about his book. I hope you enjoy.

The Simplicity of The Twelve Steps- Step Four (Courage)    Of all the ways in which we have radically complicated this incredibly simple program, what’s happened to Steps 4 and 5 is probably the most egregious.  We have managed to take a process which was designed to be done in a single sitting, in as little as an hour, and turned it into the equivalent of a doctorate-level thesis.  New alcoholics find themselves saddled with endless pages replete with multiple columns and enough data to keep a forensic scientist percolating for days on end.  How does it make rational sense to send a fragile, confused alcoholic back to his isolationist domicile to sit alone, for months, marinating in the shame of the wreckage of his past?
Think about this logically.  It’s YOUR story; things that happened to YOU.  There’s no research necessary.  You don’t need to hunt down quotes.  There’s no citations or bibliography.  Who are you pissed at, what are you scared of and who did you hurt?  That’s the task?  If you meet the average alcoholic in a bar at one in the morning, they could roll those lists out for you in completion inside of seventeen minutes.  And you’d probably hear them whether you wanted to or not.
