One of David Ortiz's signature bat flips brought David Price's early-season criticism of the Boston slugger back to the forefront Sunday at Tropicana Field. But this time, it was Price's teammate Chris Archer who wasn't happy with Ortiz's actions.
Big Papi blasted the decisive three-run homer off Archer in the third inning of the Red Sox's 3-2 win over the Rays in the series finale between the American League East rivals -- and finished his swing by spinning his lumber back toward the Boston dugout.
"It's pretty much what I do," Ortiz said of the home run.
But after the game, Archer took issue with Ortiz's bat-flip celebration and reiterated Price's comments from earlier in the year -- that Ortiz sometimes acts like he's "bigger than the game of baseball."
There are more than 200 different types of cancer and it can develop in any of 60 different organs within the body. There are three main types of mesothelioma; a rare cancer of the protective lining that covers many of the internal organs of the body. It's most commonly caused by exposure to asbestos.
During her childhood Heather von St. James did what many little girls do. She wore her daddy's jacket around the house when he came home from work -- never suspecting there was harm coming to her via that playful act.
In November 2005 at the age of 36, just three months after celebrating the birth of her daughter, she was diagnosed with pleural mesothelioma. The delicately risky surgery to save her life took her more than 1400 miles away from the life she'd just brought into the world. The surgery performed at Boston's Brigham and Women's Hospital consisted of removing the lining of the lung, an entire lung, half of her diaphragm, the lining of her heart and her sixth rib. That marked the beginning of her journey to survive and her battle with what she calls "scanxiety." Motherhood and marriage interspersed with doses of humor and faith have strengthened her when anxiety and the fear of recurrence hit home.
She's now celebrating her 8th year as a survivor. Her mission in life is to help others with mesothelioma around the globe. Her stories of awareness and hope appear in places like The Huffington Post, Moms N' Charge, Everyday Health, interviews and hope-filled awareness blogs. When she's not busy speaking, advocating, and inspiring others, she's spends her time with husband/best-friend Cameron, volunteering at her daughter's school, planting flowers, and enjoying all things whimsical. Meet Heather von St. James - A Case for Hope!
Bordentown School -volunteers needed - restoration underway with volunteer electrical contractor John White! A museum on the once thriving black school's cam[us kknown as The Tuskegee of The North is John's Mission.
The Bordentown school, was originally established in 1886 by Rev. W. A. Rice, a minister of the African Methodist Episcopal Church, as a private institution under the name of New Brunswick Technical School. It was later called "The Ironsides Normal School." in honor of Commodore Stewart the benefactor of t Bordentown's Campus, his 350 acre estate .
Reverend Walter A.S. Rice of the African Methodist Episcopal Church in New Brunswick founded the Bordentown School in 1876 as New Brunswick Technical Institute a privately supported educational entity. Reverend Rice’s mission was to educate African American students of both sexes and train them “in such industries as shall enable them to become self-supporting”. The school was founded just five years after the famous Tuskegee Institute in Alabama was formed. It was known as the Tuskegee of The North"
The school relocated to Bordentown City in 1886, where it was shrewdly renamed and incorporated as the New Jersey Manual Training and Industrial School for Colored Youth. The name change from Technical Institute to Manual Training was an insult to the founders and it was the beginning of the propaganda campaign against black educational institutions, as a continuation of slave labor. The donor of the property, Commander Stewart, the oldest enlistee in the Civil War and an Irish activist demanded in his will that his property be used for training purposes- the State of New Jersey believes they meet the requirements, insofar as they offer training courses to their detainees.
