Ben Swann - Reviving Investigative Journalism

    in Entrepreneur

Ben Swann, two time Emmy winning, investigative reporter that speaks truth to power. In 2010, Ben moved north to Cincinnati, Ohio to take a prime time anchor job with FOX WXIX and there he became the producer/writer/anchor of a segment called “Reality Check”. It was while covering the 2012 Republican Presidential primary that he began to confront the problems in the American electoral process, the stranglehold of America’s two party system and the suppression of voters’ choices by mainstream media.

In 2012, Ben became the first journalist in the nation to confront President Barack Obama directly in an interview about the Constitutionality of his “kill list” and the only journalist to confront Mitt Romney about the railroading of duly elected delegates during the 2012 Republican National Convention.

Thanks to a passionate following, Ben work has become an internet phenomenon with over 10 million video views in over 140 countries.

    The Purge Of Investigative Journalism

    in Politics Conservative

Following his appearance on “Meet the Press,” The Guardian‘s Glenn Greenwald called out moderator David Gregory on Twitter for asking a question about whether Greenwald or the Guardian should or will face charges for their role in the Edward Snowden NSA document revelation (Howard Kurtz asked Greenwald the same question two hours later on “Reliable Sources.”)
This is the problem, for somebody who claims that he’s a journalist, who would object to a journalist raising questions, which is not actually embracing any particular point of view. And that’s part of the tactics of the debate here when, in fact, lawmakers have questioned him. There’s a question about his role in this, The Guardian’s role in all of this. It is actually part of the debate, rather than going after the questioner, he could take on the issues. Is there a purge of investigative journalism in America
This isn't just about press rights. It's about the right of citizens to know what their government is doing. In an atmosphere of secrecy and punishment – despite the hollow promises of transparency - that's getting harder every day."

Art Harris, Suzi Parker, SJ Dunn On Sexual Predators, Vigilantes, & The Fallout

    in Pop Culture

News stories of pedophilia create near daily outrage. Whether high profile offenders like Josh Duggar or the quiet guy next door the stories shock and sicken. Conversations from the water cooler to the bars range from revulsion to 'here's what I'd do,' which infers vigilatism.

Two time Emmy winning journalist and producer Art Harris has reported on and written about many such cases. A veteran journalist, he created The Bald Truth, a popular news blog with attitude that counts well over a million page views its first year, and draws on Art’s three decades covering celebrity, politics, war, true crime, pop culture and Hollywood. It’s scoops are often featured and linked at ETonline, Huff Po, People.com, New York Post’s Page Six, CelebTV.com and others.

Josh Duggar, Mike Huckabee & the Complicated Relationship the South Has with Sin & Denial is the title of a recent post in The Broad Side by journalist & author Suzi Parker. Parker writes for The Daily Beast, The Economist, and The Christian Science Monitor and others. .

Author & publisher SJ Dunn's shock and horror at learning of the childhood sexual abuse of a friend prompted her to write her novel about three women who are adult survivors of child sexual abuse.  In ANGRY ENOUGH TO KILL what begins as a 'what if' conversation one night over wine becomes a plan to stalk and kill a predator.

    OUTSIDE, INSIDE A POLICE STATE

    in Politics

    Program Summary: April 25, 2015

@Naomi_Fowler produces for the Tax Justice Network the monthly "Taxcast."

In the April 2015 Taxcast: How just are our tax systems towards women? Plus: one of the USA's biggest corporations (and tax avoiders) is repatriating billions from offshore and re-focusing on good old manufacturing again, and remember how the UK Prime Minister was 'leading the world' in transparency measures not so long ago? We discuss the letter a former Cayman Islands lobbyist and Conservative peer wrote to reassure the tax haven that it was an empty gesture to distract from the proposed Financial Transaction Tax.

Then from Great Speeches and Interviews, Sacramento, CA "Inside the Police State."

Police officer Adrian Schoolcraft secretly recorded his supervisors telling officers to manipulate crime statistics and make illegal arrests from 2008 to 2009. The Village Voice series that broke Schoolcraft's story was written by Graham Rayman. Ira Glass narrates the story. "Police Officer Schoolcraft, who worked in the relatively high-crime 81st precinct in Brooklyn, was not a happy camper. Some might call him a malcontent.
In 2009, he began to secretly tape-record precinct roll calls at which commanding officers ordered cops like himself to refuse to take robbery victims’ crime complaints. Cops were also ordered to downgrade felonies — which are serious crimes — to less serious misdemeanors so that the precinct would appear safer than it actually was. Schoolcraft’s secret tape recordings might well have been ignored, had not the police department then done something shocking.  On Oct. 31, 2009, Schoolcraft left his tour early, saying he felt sick, and returned to his apartment in Queens. What happened next tells us much about "the police state."
