Interracial Relationships and the Black Struggle

    in Culture

Over the years, there has been significant debate on the impact that interracial relationships have on the black community as a whole. As more blacks become conscious of their history and heritage, they are viewing interracial relationships in a different light. Is it okay for a black man to bypass a black queen to marry a white women? Does a black woman slight her race when she chooses to marry a white man? These are questions that need to be examined in depth. We will do just that in this episode of Real Talk with Rick and J. Rich.

    Interracial Relationships-What's the Real Issue?

    in Relationships

    Hi Bedroom Playmates,

On this episode we are discussing Interracial Relationships. Is there an issue in the Black community when it comes to white or other ethnic women dating black men but less of an issue when a black woman dates a white man or any other ethnicity? Why do we see such uprest when a Black male celebrity or athlete date a woman of another ethnicity? Is it really about the woman he has chosen to date or is it something more ingrain within the Black culture?

Are interracial relationships any different from relationships of the same ethnic group.

Does love actually have a color? What is your preference? Why or why wouldn't you date someone of an opposite ethnic group?

What about interracial relationships in the LGBT community? Do they face the same issues as heterosexual couples?

We want to talk about this. This will be a healthy discussion. We are having guest host Tessie Wilmot on the show to engage us in this topic.

Join us and share your thoughts.

    Interracial Relationships in Television

    in Television

Interracial relationships are on a rise in the United States.  Interracial married couples grew by 28 percent from 2000 to 2010, making 8.4 percent of all current U.S. marriages mixed-raced.

So, it’s no surprise that there has been an explosion of television shows featuring interracial couples.  However, mainstream television series that portray Black people in interracial relationships – with Black women in particular – appear to far outnumber programs depicting Black couples.

In 1975, “The Jefferson" was the first television series to garner attention to featuring the first African American/Caucasian marriage.  The series ran for 10-years.  Just recently, there has been a huge influx of television shows that promote interracial relationship – with its most popular and most controversial – ABC’s "Scandal".

On this episode of Hot Topics Talk Radio, we’re going to examine the rise of shows which promote interracial relationships, and the decrease of shows that depict Black relationships and marriages.  We are asking the question, “Is Black marriage going away in mainstream television?”

Borderline Personality Disorder and Sexual Addiction with Carol the Coach

    in Self Help

Sex addicts and partners of sex addicts can have mental illnesses that complicate diagnosis and recovery.  One of these mental illnesses is borderline personality disorder, or BPD.  BPD is commonly associated with sex addiction and makes sex addiction much more difficult to diagnose and treat because the criteria for both diagnoses overlap.  BPD is considered a severe personality disorder often caused by cumulative trauma experienced in early and middle childhood.  Carol the Coach will interview Geoff Goodman who not only is a CSAT but a proffessor of psychology. He will be explaining some of the symptoms of BPD which include frantic attempts to avoid abandonment, chronic feelings of emptiness, and impulsivity, which can include self-injurious behaviors and sexual promiscuity.  It is important that mental health professionals screen for BPD when they assess sex addicts and partners of sex addicts.  BPD is extremely challenging to treat in psychotherapy because patients diagnosed with BPD often attempt to push away their therapists with hostile behaviors.  Fortunately, there are several evidence-based treatment models for BPD that, when combined with a 12-step program for sex addiction or codependency, can help the patient to find a successful path of recovery.

    Freedom From Sexual Sin

    in Christianity

You may be looking at the title of this show "Freedom From Sexual Sin, and have already begun to give up and say I just can't find the freedom I'm seeking. You've looked at number of books some truthful some not when it comes to being delivered from the bondage of sexual sin. You have even listened to others advice, counselors, pastors, psychologist and friends and still nothing, no freedom. Now there's a question we must ask ourselves, do I really want to be free from sexual sin or do I want to continue with that illicit affair from the office or at church? Do I want to disassociate myself from those friends or relationships that cause me to stumble? You know, those that pressure you to engage in sex before marriage, those who want you to view ography, attend sex filled drinking parties all designed to keep you in a sexual stronghold. Do I truly want the freedom that Christ offer or am I just playing  one big game with my heart mind and soul? These are just some of the questions we will address as we seek to persue sexual purity and a genuine relationship with Christ, having a heart that desires to be totally free from sexual sin.
