OVERCOMING DISCOURAGEMENT AND DEPRESSION PART 2

    in Women

special guest interview Mulan Benjamin aka Apostle Teresa Speaker  to overcome.

    1. Get outside. Our caveman friends saw lots of daylight; getting up at sunrise and going to sleep at sunset. Exposure to bright sunlight for 30 minutes a day either through sunlight or a light made for this, helps keep your internal clock set. T

    2. Aerobic Exercise. 30 minutes at least 3 times a week means those ‘runner’s high’ endorphins get released regularly. It’s also a good way to work through and release stress.

    3. Omega-3 fatty acids. 1,000 mg daily. Omega-3’s aid in the brain’s neuron connectivity. Enteric coated capsules help prevent burping the fishy tasting oil but you can also freeze thewhole grains), fish, free range meats, & vegetables and you’re good to go.

    4. Sleep. Change your sleep routine so that it’s more conducive to a good night’s rest. Turn your lights down and go to bed at the same time everynight. . Avoid caffeine and alcohol.

    5. Socialize. Remember the Amish farmer has his family and community to fall back on for support. There’s no reason you can’t too. Involve yourself with close friends and family.

    6. Watch your thinking! Anti-rumination strategy is vital to breaking out of depression and other emotional ruts. Become aware of those times you dwell on the negatives in your life – both real or imagined – and stop them. It takes work and persistence but if you constantly tell yourself to ‘stop it’  you are building a positive habit that will change your life for the better. Whether it’s the jerk who cut you off in traffic or something a little closer to home, don’t give yourself the luxury of a negative thought.

Thinking: How Self-Talk Becomes Your Reality

    in Spirituality

We talk to ourselves at the rate of 150-300 words per minute or nearly 50,000 thoughts per day. This suggests that what we say to others is not nearly as important as what we are saying to ourselves. Tune in this week as Lisa Jones and I discuss creating the reality you desire versus the one you’re THINKING.  This week we remember the distinction between feeling and emoting and how each affects our internal conversations.  We uncover a little understood truth in psychospiritual growth—the intensity of our emotions fuel or energizes our thoughts. So, what does this say about our feelings? Tonight’s show expands on the insight few understand—feelings represent a ‘feedback loop’ for the quality of our thoughts. Once the loop repeats often enough with the same thoughts, we form an imprint or emotion. This means we can literally choose how to feel! Are you confused? Join us for what I’m sure will be a wonderful discussion.

From Dysfunction To Restoration - How Do We Turn Our Black Neighborhoods Around

    in Current Events

The past few weeks, we've talked about some of the external forces that have wrecked havoc on African American society in America.  From federal, state and local legislation, formal and implicit business policies and practices, and willing complicity and willfull ignorance of much of White America, African Americans have been subjected to disenfranchisement, discrimination and oppression in almost every aspect of life.  These are forces we have little control over, and we fight to bring these truths and their impacts to people's knowledge.

But there are issues we face within our neighborhoods that are within our power to change that would serve us well, regardless of the outside forces.  These issues may not change or affect the outside forces at - in fact, would really have no bearing on them at all - but they would return us to a quality of life that we seem to have lost, and at one time served to sustain us through times much more violent and desperate than these.

So today on Coffe, Current Events & Politics, we're going to begin a discussion about addressing some of the internal dysfunction in our neighborhoods, in order to find out how we can turn them around from the inside.
