This is the final radio show of the term. We do not have a guest speaker so that Lena, Michelle and I can be available to answer questions about final projects and any concepts in the course you would still like to discuss/clarify/share your experience with. If there is time I (as well as Michelle and Lena) can also talk about some of the work we're engaged in outside of teaching though all strongly connected to socio-culturaI dimensions of learning. If there are particular projects that piqued your interest please let me/us know.
Are you closed to learning new things? We'll talk about opening up to learning. If you don't learn something right away, do you give up on it? What are you missing by this behavior. Do you feel stupid when you don't learn something immediately, does this bring up painful memories? What if you really struggle does that mean you can never be good at it? Last week I learned some new things and it has helped me to feel energized and alive!
Let's talk about learning and how vulnerable it makes us feel to not know everything/

Heidi Olinger is founder and CEO of Pretty Brainy, Inc., a Colorado-based company that creates educational content to support teachers in their mission. Pretty Brainy specializes in project-based STEAM/science-technology-engineering-art-math programming to help educators excite students about learning and prepare them — especially girls — to pursue the broadest of career options.
Olinger began her work as an educator in 1990, focusing on students provisionally admitted to the University of Colorado. With a devotion to experimental pedagogy, she developed practices in student-centered teaching and over the next 10 years received multiple awards for teaching excellence, including the Boettcher Foundation Award.
Drawn to social entrepreneurship, she became a communications strategist in 2000 and senior writer for Colorado’s leading magazine on women in business. Also in 2000, however, she developed a close relationship with a niece who inspired her to form Pretty Brainy.
To fulfill her own heroic mission, Olinger launched Pretty Brainy, Smart Goods for Smart Girls, in 2008, and in 2010 Pretty Brainy girls’ T-shirts won the highest honor from the Mom’s Choice Awards. In 2012 Olinger introduced FashionablyMashed, an interdisciplinary mash-up of fashion design and STEAM for schools and nonprofit organizations. Inside and outside of Pretty Brainy she speaks on the success of girls and women in math and science. Contact her at email@example.com.

Viki Winterton interviews Renée Mollan-Masters!
Renée has a Master’s Degree in Speech Pathology from California State University, Fullerton. Applying research was always her forte, and it’s something that she has been acknowledged with – she was awarded Outstanding Senior Clinician during her senior year.
She developed a reading perception lab when she worked as a speech pathologist for the Fountain Valley School District. This then became the model program for the state of California. Renée then embarked on a private practice in speech pathology for years.
In 1980, she wrote Yes They Can – a handbook for effectively parenting disabled children.
Renée got the idea for You Are Smarter Than You Think when she was producing a parenting show for PBS. It was during this time she discovered the research done by Dr. Howard Gardner of Harvard University. While lecturing at a local college, she shared this information with her students and asked them to try it out. Students came back the next day speaking in high volumes about the process. From there, You Are Smarter Than You Think was born.
In 1992, You Are Smarter Than You Think – the book – was published. The learning system is being used in many colleges and universities all over the country and the aim of the program is to make education a much worthwhile experience for students everywhere.

"Breathwork is a powerful, safe and gentle breathing technique which releases stress from the body and increases your energy level, for the purpose of experiencing more ease and pleasure in your life. Developed in the early 70's it has been practiced by many thousands of people throughout the world. In a Breathwork session, a professionally trained Breathworker guides your breath in a manner that increases the level of oxygen in your body, which increases your energy. The increased levels of oxygen stimulate the body's natural ability to cleanse itself." Daya Devi-Doolin is your Breathworker having offered many workshops to various groups and sessions at her holistic center, The Doolin Healing Sanctuary since 1989. Bring a thick mat, thick sleeping bag or thick blanket and a pillow. Wear loose fitting clothing to our sessions.
Breathwork releases stored emotions from the body and accesses the part of the brain that stimulates memory. By learning to breathe consciously, one is able to uncover and release limiting thought patterns from the past. Compiled by Co-Founder of the Rebirthing Process, Author Sondra Ray and Author Daya Devi-Doolin. It is easy and simple. It is the quickest way I know to clear you of your negative thoughts and memories that are consciously and unconsciously limiting your life. Through this process you can reclaim your power to be the ruler of your destiny. A Private Conscious Connected Breathing Session takes about 1 or 1 1/2 hrs.
