Praying Through the Bible #86
TEXT: Jeremiah 42:1-7
Has someone ever asked you for something, and even though they said all the right words and had the right expression on their face, you detected insincerity in their request? Unfortunately, we can offer insincere prayers to God as well. Our prayers can sometimes lack transparency. To put it bluntly, we can try to fool God with our prayers forgetting that He already knows our hearts before we even open our mouths.
We see an example of insincerity in prayer in our passage today. As you know, the Babylonians conquered the nation of Judah and took many of the inhabitants of that land in chains to Babylon. Only a small remnant was left behind under the leadership of a governor appointed by the king of Babylon. After the Babylonians left Judah, this governor was assassinated by a Jewish army officer. Shortly thereafter, another army officer named Johanan deposed the murderer and was appointed the leader of the Jewish remnant. Johanan intended to lead the remnant out of the desolate land of Judah down to Egypt to escape any further Babylonian wrath.
Our passage tells us that he and the other leaders of the remnant go to Jeremiah and ask him to pray to God for them in order to get God's perspective on what they should do. However, we quickly find out that something is not quite right about this prayer request.
Praying Through the Bible #87
TEXT: Jeremiah 42:1-7
Last week, we began looking at the insincere prayer of Johanan and the people of Israel. They had been left behind after the Babylonians took many of their fellow countrymen captive. They had already determined to go down to Egypt to escape further Babylonian wrath. However, they gave a pretense of spirituality and being in tune with God by asking Jeremiah to pray for them and to seek God’s direction on their behalf.
We saw, first, a case of false humility -- the children of Israel were not truly humble before God. They were still determined to have their own way. They were only pretending to want God’s direction for their situation, and if God’s answer to their prayer did not line up with what they wanted to do, they had already decided that they were going to ignore what God said.
2. In the sad case of Johanon and the remnant of Israel, we have a case of determined willfulness. Now, Johanon and his people already had their minds made up that they were going to go down to Egypt. But in verse 5, they said to Jeremiah, “The Lord be a true and faithful witness between us, if we do not even according to all things for the which the Lord thy God shall send thee to us." We will see that these are simply pious words from people who still have sinful hearts.
The children of Israel do not really desire the Lord’s guidance on this matter. In fact, they already know what God is going to say about it because God's prophets, including Jeremiah, had warned Israel and Judah against turning to Egypt for help numerous times. What they are really doing here is asking God to condone what they have already planned to do.
" Sincere Love ". Hopefully we all have experienced this kind of love as Christians, who have their faith and hope placed confidently in God. This sincere love involves selfless giving and we are not just talking money and time. How many times have we walked away from someone hurting by saying , " I will pray for you " ? Pray what ? 1 Peter 1:22 says , ' Now you have sincere love for each other as brothers and sisters because you were cleansed from your sins when you accepted the truth of the Good News. So see to it that you really do love each other intensely with all your hearts. " Our God's love and forgiveness free us to take our eyes off ourselves and to meet others needs. We all say we love our God but do we understand God's love? Are we governed by that love? Are we walking in that kind of love daily? Are we loving and considering one another more than ourselves? Tonight ( Wednesday Night) @ 9:30-10:30 PM on the SOW Show ( Sharing Our Walk) with host John Fougeray we discuss, " Casual - Insincere Love ". in Self Help
When you felt unhappy, were you told, “You should be grateful. Others have it worse.”? Are you supposse to believe if others suffer more than you, that is cause to be thankful?
Today, with Eloisa Ramos and Lessons 187-200 of A Course in Miracles, we explore our gratitude definition and why without our recognition of oneness it will be insincere.
Lesson 195 says, “Gratitude is a lesson hard to learn for those who look upon the world amiss. The most that they can do is see themselves as better off than others…Love makes no comparisons. And gratitude can only be sincere if it be joined to love.”
To see the world “amiss” is to make fear real and perceive the world, and others, as our enemies making love impossible. ACIM teaches that our only function is to heal our mind, and forgiveness is the means given to us whose mind sleeps and dreams of fear, separation, sacrifice and condemnation.
Lesson 195 teaches, “When your forgiveness is complete you will have total gratitude, for you will see that everything has earned the right to love by being loving, even as your Self.”
In oneness we recognize giving is receiving and we are given everything. And so in Lesson 197 we learn, “It can be but my gratitude I earn.”
Today with Lesson 195 we walk the way of love, thanking “our Father for one thing alone; that we are separate from no living thing, and therefore one with Him.”

California Senator Leland Yee A major anti-gunner is arrested for gun running. What is the world coming to? Just shows how insincere the anti-gun crowd really is. When you read the affidavit of his statements and his total callousness for what purpose the guns he was helping to smuggle were going to be to, it's just shocking.
Also electronic currencies are going mainstream. Now the Treausury is looking to get in on the act of regulating digital currencies and this can only be a bad sign of things to come. Also Auroracoin is giving digital currency away to Icelanders. Is it too good to be true? We will soon find out, won't we.
On this broadcast we're going to examine the "damage control" tactics used by false prophets when they get exposed. We will address from the scriptures how believers in Christ are to discern when an exposed church leader is simply doing a disingenuous public relations ploy by projecting a phony image of humility to save their ministry, and when they are sincerely repentant. Are they truly remorseful or just sorry they got caught? We will also discuss the lack of discernment among leaders who won't address these issues, and expose the reasons why many of them protect and promote known false messengers. We'll use some recent examples of preachers many know or have heard of.
The fragile state of the union; Was O boring, banal, pedestrian, or openly frightening? One thing's for sure: nothing is going to change policy-wise, other than it continuing to get worse; Does O have the unconstitutional power he's grabbing? Yes he does! Don't believe me? Ask Ted Cruz; And O's unpopularity will cost Dems control of the Senate - but with O ruling by decree, what difference will it make?

This week's Theme:SINCERITY.
Be sincere with your G-D, yourself, and with those you consider family and friends. They say G-d knows your heart. Why would you attempt to fool that which brought you to life? You owe more than an insincere attempt at knowing and understanding the truth of life and all that it has to give.
Sincere love knows no boundary, no condition, no exception. Speaking a sincere word, performing a sincere act, believing with full sincerity in those things you don’t understand or are able to grasp fully, requires a sincere connection with the truth of you. Barring all lies and veiled truths.
Maintain a sincerity of heart that lays open your vulnerability in life. A sincere belief in that which is right for the mechanics of the universal scheme of things. Be sincere in your word, your action, your manner of life. Sure, G-d knows, but you do too, and bottom line it rests with you.
We all lie instinctively at times when the truth won't get us out of trouble or when the truth may do more harm than help. That's regardless of the folklore of George washington or Abraham Lincoln or mther Theresa for that matter.
The question becomes have women become so good at lying that they lie instead of telling the truth when lying may not be necessary? Are the compliments that women give always insincere? We have all witnessed a woman give another woman a compliment only to hear her diss that same woman privately to a friend after seeing the happy reaction of the woman they just complimented. Why they be lyin'?
Can women trust the motivations of other women when women hardly seem to trust each other? If you're a woman and reading this are you thinking to yourself: Do I trust women? Do I really like women? Do I know for a fact that women be lyin'? Do I think men don't know we be lyin'?
When you address these qustons honestly, you finally start to get to the truth. Think about the last times you have lied. Are you rationalizing that those lies didn't hurt anything or anybody? If s, have you worked yourself into a lying groove you probably won't work yourself out of? Lyin' cause you've been lied to? Lyin' to get the truth? Lyin' to get some money?
Girls, y'all know y'all be lyin' and we know y'all be lyin'. The question is why do girl's be lyin'? Girl, why be lyin'?
One of the more frustrating things that those walking with Christ endure are the wrong people carrying the right message. Since most people struggle to separate words from the person who speaks them, this can be a difficult challenge indeed. Many have run into a Bible "scholar" who accurately communicates the gospel message to anyone within earshot, but has no interest in living by the truth they communicate so well.Others speak something profound to the hearer, and communicate great truth, but miss it themselves because either the context in which they said it, or the intent with which they said it was improper. Still others exercise a position of authority well, yet opt not to submit to the truth they might wield before others. In all this, the saint of God must buy the truth and sell it not, no matter the source.

C.S. Lewis said: "A concentrated mind and a sitting body make for better prayer than a kneeling body
Our prayer motivator verse from the Word of God today is James 5:17 which reads: “Elias was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months."
Our prayer motivator quote today is from Charles G. Finney. He said: "When God has specially promised the thing, we are bound to believe we shall receive it when we pray for it. You have no right to put in an 'if', and say, 'Lord, if it be thy will..." This is to insult God. To put an 'if' in God's promise when God has put none there, is tantamount to charging God with being insincere."
