Poetry helped Imani conquer depression:
Poetry, Imani McGee-Stafford says, saved her life.
She was still in middle school when she began putting the words rumbling through her head onto paper, filling notebook after notebook in search of a voice to break free of the depression that was choking her.
After being sexually abused as a child, the promising young basketball player attempted suicide three times by age 17. But she kept writing as part of her daily "dogfight" of emotions.
Eventually, that writing pulled her out of depression. She found her voice at slam-poetry competitions, where she could stand up and use poetry to tell her story.
I'm Modeling A New Image (IMANI) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, which assists in mentoring, inspiring and providing an overall enhancement to the quality of life for youth within the community. This wonderful organization is headed by Mr. Michael Gaines and his daughter, Esquita Gaines Shack.
For over 30 years, Michael Gaines has been an advocate for children and families in need of mental health services. His sound clinical practice has been recognized by the Office Of Juvenile Justice, the Department Of Children and Family Services, and Family Roads. Mr. Gaines is a Positive Parent Educator. He is certified in levels 2, 4 and 5 of the program, Triple P Positive Parenting.
Surrounded by the daily interactions of the mental health field, Esquita Gaines Shack started mentoring at a young age. By the time she left for Arkansas and returned for her first Summer Break, Ms. Shack began mentoring children with developmental disabilities. However, it wasn't until nearly 8 years later that Ms. Shack decided to pursue a career in Psychology. Today Esquita Shack works to keep children at risk of out home placement, inside their residence. She provides school interventions throughout the Greater East Baton Rouge Parish and she is certified in levels 2, 3, 4 and 5 of Triple P Positive Parenting.
And now, let's talk psychology with IMANI.

You've seen it; attacks caught on video, gruesome murders, bizarre behaviors around the world and the list goes on. It used to be a time when a person being attacked would be helped by someone passing by, but now crowds of people grab their cell phones and the whole world will see it in "real time" in a matter of minutes, and this is from school! Where is the compassion for humanity? Have we really become so cold in our hearts that we no longer care about our brothers and sisters? What is happening that evil seems to be more accepted than good?

#MyRealTalkRadio interviews Multi-Talented Power Couple: FLEX & SHANICE.
Actor comedian Flex Alexander and 90's pop star Shanice are the celebrity couple of this hit docu-series on the OWN network. After hitting
some financial setbacks, the former sitcom star and his singer wife brought in family members of their extended family and Shanice's "momager" Crystal, into their rental home to help make ends meet. Professionally, things are improving: Flex has comedy gigs booked, and Shanice is ready to hit the stage and start recording again. Rumors were that Crystal was to blame for her daughter's career troubles, so Shanice must re-evaluate that relationship all while juggling booking her own gigs and parenting preteens Imani and Elijah. As the financial struggles endure, the fairytale couple along with the help and love of their family, are focused and ready to get back on their feet and make a comeback to remember.
Shanice released her first independent album Every Woman Dreams, on her own label Imajah Records (named for her two children), which has sold over 200,000 copies to date. Thanks to technological advances, Shanice has remained widely visible, receiving close to six million hits from her youtube followers, prompting an article in Huffington post wherein she was called a marketing genius! Now ready for her major return to the stage, more talented, stronger and sexier than ever, Shanice has collaborated with writers and producers extraordinaire and has recorded a collection of irresistible hits which tell the stories of pain, love, loss and triumph!
