Growing Up X: Ilyasah Shabazz, Daughter of Malcolm X Shares Her Story

    in Women

Being part of a religious community has its benefits, in terms of identity, beliefs, and a clear distinction between yourself and those who are "outsiders." What is it like growing inside a powerful religious organization that is feared by the government? How does your life change when your father is martyred, and becomes a larger than life historical figure? How does that affect your sense of purpose in life? How does that affect the friendships and personal relationships you form? How do you help people to see you the person and not you the symbol of whatever people perceive your father, mother, and religious organization to be? Is it possible to have a personal relationship with someone who is outside of the religious structure that shaped your identity? Ilyasah Shabazz, shares her story in the book "Growing Up X"

Malcolm X From Mecca to Ferguson

    in Politics

FIFTY years ago today my father, Malcolm X, was assassinated while speaking at the Audubon Ballroom in New York City. I think about him every day, but even more in the last year, with the renewed spirit of civil rights activism after the tragic events in Ferguson, Mo., on Staten Island and in countless other parts of the country. What would he have to say about it?He would also critique the activists’ rhetoric itself. I imagine he would applaud the “Hands Up” gesture for its sheer dramatic effect, but also critique it as rank capitulation that ironically accommodates the very goal of police brutality — to intimidate and immobilize black citizens, forcing them into a defenseless posture if they hope to survive. WORLD WIDE AFRICA THE VOICE OF THE PAN AFRICAN MOVEMENT

    in Politics

Today's show is the beginning of readings by Malcolm X El Haji Malik Shabazz for the next week we will examine his works. As Pan Africanist we must study those who started this movement.  This is what is happening not only here in America but in South Africa and other free African nations that wish to unite.  The White Establishment has sent out its puppets to disrupt and disburse all unified Black organizations.  This is what Malcolm taught us on how to recognize these traitors.

"This is the way it is with the white man in America. He’s a wolf and you’re sheep. Any time a shepherd, a pastor, teach [sic] you and me not to run from the white man and, at the same time, teach [sic] us not to fight the white man, he’s a traitor to you and me. Don’t lay down our life all by itself. No, preserve your life. it’s the best thing you got. And if you got to give it up, let it be even-steven.

The slavemaster took Tom and dressed him well, and fed him well, and even gave him a little education — a little education; gave him a long coat and a top hat and made all the other slaves look up to him. Then he used Tom to control them. The same strategy that was used in those days is used today, by the same white man. He takes a Negro, a so-called Negro, and make [sic] him prominent, build [sic] him up, publicize [sic] him, make [sic] him a celebrity. And then he becomes a spokesman for Negroes — and a Negro leader.

I would like to just mention just one other thing else quickly, and that is the method that the white man uses, how the white man uses these “big guns,” or Negro leaders, against the black revolution. They are not a part of the black revolution. They’re used against the black revolution."
