The Greatest Stories Ever Told: The Parables Of Jesus a new book by Jim English

    in Spirituality

The authors of The Urantia Book state that their purpose in producing the narrative of the life and teachings of Jesus was to utilize and to some extent co-ordinate the existing records having to do with his life. This can be clearly observed in their accounts of his parables.

Jesus' parables are as well-known to Bible readers as they are to readers of The Urantia Papers. They have been fairly well-preserved in the records of old, but we now hear them retold with rich context and settings; their meanings clarified, their teachings replete. They comprise some fifteen thousand spoken words of our Lord, precisely translated into modern-day English; over twice the number set down in the original record. They are SUBLIME.

These seemingly simple stories that Jesus told us so long ago are as timeless as he is himself. They have left an indelible mark on humanity, coming down through the ages as sublime inspiration and instruction, traveling light without doctrine or dogma.

Jim English is a long-time reader of the papers and he has produced and published an illustrated version of these parables entitled, The Greatest Stories Ever Told: The Parables of Jesus. He will join us this Saturday to discuss the publication and the stories themselves.

You can download a free interactive PDF version of the book at: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/ut7a9mwtx3bifvb/AAAFeBk6zXdxRGj5Uq3wRD-ea?dl=0

Here you will find just some of the selections in the book of forty parables which Jesus often employed as natural and familiar illustrations of deep spiritual truths. These seemingly simple stories have left their indelible mark on humanity, coming down through the ages as sublime inspiration and instruction, traveling light without doctrine or dogma. Truly a pearl of great price.

Jesse Frohman ,Kurt Cobain: The Last Session and so much more!

    in Pop Culture

While earning a degree in economics at the University of Michigan, Jesse Frohman picked up a camera and never put it down. When he returned home to New York, he had no formal training or experience, but he did have a portfolio of platinum prints, which caught the interest of legendary photographer Irving Penn, who hired Jesse to manage his studio.Jesse has photographed countless celebrities and still lifes. His work is also in many private collections. Jesse lives and works in New York. And whilst he may have shot everyone from James Brown to Woody Allen, The Stroke to Diane Von Furstenberg for Vogue, Vanity Fair and Rolling Stone, it’s his iconic portraits of Kurt Cobain, shot in New York in 93 that linger longest in the memory. One of Kurt’s last ever photoshoots before his untimely passing. It’s now being commemorated by ONETSHIRT for a new capsule collection On the 20th anniversary of his death, a powerful portrait of Kurt Cobain and Nirvana including many previously unpublished image taken during their last formal photo shoot . In August 1993, when Nirvana was in New York to perform at the legendary Roseland Ballroom, Jesse Frohman photographed them for the London Observer’s Sunday magazine Over the course of ninety photographs, Cobain seems an almost feral creature, by turns gentle, playful, defiant, suffering, or absorbed in his music. There’s a diverse range of shots of Cobain with fellow band members Krist Novoselic and Dave Grohl and on his own, posing, performing, and greeting fans. Jon Savage’s original interview, which appeared with Frohman’s photographs in the Observer is also reproduced, giving us Cobain in his own words. The book is a touching tribute to Cobain twenty years after his tragic demise, and following Nirvana’s recent induction in to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The book contains 90 illustrations, 25 in color.

Interview with Cindy Helm for Outside Inside

    in Books

As a child, did you ever think all of your friends had forgotten about you? Did it ever feel like your friends were deliberately avoiding you or were out doing something totally awesome without you?

This is exactly where Birdie finds himself one day in this beautifully produced picture book, Outside Inside. When Birdie does not see his friends around, he decides to look for them. Just when Birdie is about to give up and go back to his nest, his friends surprise him. They open up, invite him inside and reveal what they had been up to all along.
Outside Inside is a simple and clever story about the joy of friendship and giving. Using 35 easy words and 26 pages of vivid illustrations, it is geared toward the youngest of readers, but the catchy story is attention grabbing for adults as well. The adults will appreciate the deeper double meaning as Birdie's change of heart corresponds with the action around the outside and inside settings.

An investigation into the man Scotland Yard thought (but couldn't prove) was Jack the Ripper. Dozens of theories have attempted to resolve the mystery of the identity of Jack the Ripper, the world's most famous serial killer. Ripperologist Robert House contends that we may have known the answer all along. The head of Scotland Yard's Criminal Investigation Department at the time of the murders thought Aaron Kozminski was guilty, but he lacked the legal proof to convict him. By exploring Kozminski's life, House builds a strong circumstantial case against him, showing not only that he had means, motive, and opportunity, but also that he fit the general profile of a serial killer as defined by the FBI today. The first book to explore the life of Aaron Kozminski, one of Scotland Yard's top suspects in the quest to identify Jack the Ripper, combines historical research and contemporary criminal profiling techniques to solve one of the most vexing criminal mysteries of all time. The book draws on a decade of research by the author, including trips to Poland and England to uncover Kozminski's past and details of the case. Includes a Foreword by Roy Hazelwood, a former FBI profiler and pioneer of profiling sexual predators. Features dozens of photographs and illustrations. Building a thorough and convincing case that completes the work begun by Scotland Yard more than a century ago, this book is essential reading for anyone who wants to know who really committed Jack the Ripper's heinous and unforgettable crimes.
