    Relapse Triggers

    in Lifestyle

When people stop using alcohol and drugs they are given a second chance on life. Some embrace this new life and never look back. Others find living without alcohol and drugs to be a struggle every day. Regardless of your experience, we are all susceptible to triggers which can cause us to relapse. Recognizing and managing these triggers is important to maintaining our sobriety.

So what are triggers? A “trigger” of addiction involves any high-risk situation or stressor that “cues” a thought, feeling, or action to use alcohol or drugs. There are two types of triggers: internal, which occur within us, and external which occurs outside of us.

On this episode we will explore common triggers and discuss ways to counteract these unhealthy reactions and develop an action plan to keep ourselves safe and sober.

Pagan Variety Show with Peter Bebergal

    in Spirituality

The Pagan Variety show welcomes author, Peter Bebergal to speak about his new book, The Season of the Witch : How the Occult Saved Rock and Roll
    http://www.amazon.com/Season-Witch-Occult-Saved-Rock/dp/0399167668

Do you believe in rock and roll?  Can music save your mortal soul or will you burn in the presence of the God of Hell Fire?

From the fateful meeting at the crossroads to the Super Bowl half time show.  From Nazi's to the Illuminati, to Crowley and Maharishi Mahesh Yogi the history of Rock and Roll is woven with threads of sex, drugs, and magick.  Is the force that drives the magick in Rock purely fiction, a well-meaning attempt to lift our consciousness, a conspiracy laden attempt to control us, or just plain charlatanism?  Peter Bebergal unravels the threads to investigate as someone versed in Magick.  His treatment of the subject of the occult and Rock and Roll shows his knowledge and respect of both.  If you love Rock and the myth and mysteries of our modern day bards and magicians, you need to read this book.

Congressman Danny Davis Considers Presenting New Policing for Police and Prisons

    in Women

Our Blogtalk radio family has worked together to create two pieces of legislation, one concerning Police and the other concerning Prisons. Today Congressman Danny Davis of the 7th District will listen to these suggestions and guide us through the process of how these ideas can be presented to Congress made into laws. The proposed legislation is as follows:

Prisons: 1) Remove the objective to keep these as profit making ventures. Change the objective to one of eventually closing them all, "going out of business." 2) Make the objective to restore to wholeness those who have committed offenses against others, not punishment or vengeance for their crime. 3) Release everyone who is not jailed for a violent offence. 4) Release everyone incarcerated for drug trafficking or using drugs in which no weapons or acts of violence were involved. 5) Allow those who are in jail because they cannot pay a bond to be immediately released, if jailed for a non-violent offense. 6) Provide psychological evaluations and counseling services for violent offenders serving time in prison. 7) Provide education for those incarcerated, if they do not have a high school diploma. 8) Provide vocational training for those who are inside, preparing them for when they will be released. 9) Allow those serving long time or life sentences to serve the community by talking to errant youth in a "scared straight" program. 10) Expunge all records after the person has served time and been released, and do not require any reference or admission of committing a felony on an job applications.

SiGnOtHeTiMeS w Queen Tahiyrah Tonight's Audiobook Michelle Alexander NewJimCrow

    in Motivation

The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in the Age of Colorblindness a book by Michelle Alexander a civil rights litigator and legal scholar, published in 2010(The New Press). The book deals with race-related and social, political, and legal phenomena in the United States and attempts to apply the term 'The New Jim Crow' to the situation of African Americans in the contemporary United States. The name derives from the original Jim Crow laws that prevailed in the states of the former Confederacy of the U.S. through the 1960s. This book was on The New York Times Best Seller List ten consecutive months, and philosopherCornel West has called it a "secular bible for a new social movement in early twenty-first-century America." In the book Alexander deals primarily with the issue of the current mass levels of incarceration in the United States (with 5%of the world's population, U.S. incarcerates 25%of the world's prisoners) and what she perceives as societal repression of AfricanAmerican men and, to a lesser degree, Latino men. She discusses the social consequences of various policies for people of color, as well as for the US population as a whole. According to Alexander, the majority of black men in large American cities are "warehoused in prisons," their labor no longer needed in the globalized economy. Alexander maintains that many young black men, once they are labeled as "felons," become trapped in a second-class status that they find difficult to escape. The conventional point of view holds that discrimination has mostly ended with the Civil rights movement reforms of 1960s. Alexander claims the U.S. criminal justice system uses the “War on Drugs” as a primary tool for enforcing traditional, as well as new, modes of discrimination and repression.
