    Names: why they are important?

    in Self Help

Many people give no thought into naming their children these days.  Let's just call them Becky (sorry, no offense to the Becky's out there).  But Ancient Africans, Native Americans, Ancient Asiatics actually cared about naming their children and themselves.  When I speak to individuals from outside of the U.S. I always ask them what their real name is.  It really is a shame people don't keep their real names when they try to assimilate in the European culture.  Instead of assimlating just be yourself fam.  If people can't pronounce your name, too damn bad they need to learn how to pronounce it.  Your name is not Toby.

The New Essenes - Names of Power–Part II

    in Spirituality

The New Essenes is a gathering of ordinary people practicing deep introspection as a way to solve everyday problems. Our inquiry is based on the idea that the Word is alive and that the Language is where our Power lives: communication is not what is said and done, but the result of what is said and done.

By joining in and coming back, we increasingly benefit from the distilled essence of an ultimate method of inquiry, based on Sacred Geometry and known as the Path of XPR.

Our meetings last one-hour & are structured as follows:

    1.       The first 5 minutes: Welcoming, Checking In. taking a moment of silence.

    2.       The next 10 minutes:  Ritual readings.

    3.       The last 45 minutes: Introduction of a topic. Group Sharing & Inquiry, Summary / Ritual Closing.

Guest: Douglas Wilson - Writers to Read: 9 Names That Belong on  Your Bookshelf

    A little bit about Doug:

If books are among our friends, we ought to choose them wisely.

But sometimes it’s hard to know where to start. In Writers to Read, Doug Wilson—someone who’s spent a lifetime writing, reading, and teaching others to do the same—introduces us to nine of his favorite authors from the last 150 years, exploring their interesting lives, key works, and enduring legacies. In doing so, Wilson opens our eyes to literary mentors who not only teach us what good writing looks like, but also help us become better readers in the process.
