S3-E14 West Coast Port Shutdown Could Be Days Away: Devastating For The Economy

    in News

With no contract, will the ILWU walk off the job and strike? Will the PMA lock out the workers as they did in 2002? If the West Coast ports are shut down at a cost to the country of nearly $2 billion a day, which seems likely given the breakdown in contract negotiations, thousands of containers coming into the U.S. and thousands more head out stuff with our exports will sit idle at the docks. Will the president invoke the Taft-Hartley Act to force the sides back to work by declaring a national emergency? Tune in to Manufacturing Talk Radio and get the latest update on how a port strike could further cripple America’s manufacturing and potentially the whole economy for 2015.

For those who have been following the recent ISM reports, and stories on mfgtalkradio.com one of the recurring concerns of respondents in both the manufacturing and service sector has been the congestion at West Coast Ports – which handled 43.5% of containerized cargo in the U.S and where transiting cargo accounted for 12.5% of US GDP – as a result of reduced work output by the local unions who have been more focused in recent weeks on ongoing wage hike negotiations.

Join us this Tuesday, February 10th at 1PM EST with returning special guest Peter Friedmann: Executive Director, Agriculture Transportation Coalition, who plays a key role in developing U.S. and international ocean and waterborne transportation policy.  Joining Peter will be Mark Hirzel, President, Los Angeles Customs Brokers and Freight Forwarders Association, Inc., Mark is the Customs Consultancy Manager for DHL Global Logistics, responsible for DHLs professional consulting services team in the United States.  Mark consults with DHL’s largest clients on developing internal audits and programs, to insure compliance with import and export laws and regulations.

Bhyy - Stay in Your Lane: Learning to Mind Our Own Business

    in Culture

    An Igbo Proverb says:

“No one gets a mouthful of food by picking between someone else’s teeth.”

Symbolically, food is what we give the body for energy and nutrients. Food is the substance needed to keep our bodies burning fuel and operating accordingly. Food can therefore be symbolized as anything of value we wish to accompany our lives. Anything we wish to hold on to, to swallow, and to make part of us in a way that will give us nourishment of spirit. Primarily this food is Yah’s word, our daily and living bread. But this food can also be other things such as livelihood, relationships, etc.

2Th 3:11  For we hear of some among you walking disorderly, not working at all, but are busybodies.

2Th 3:12  But we command and urge such, through our Master ????? Messiah, to settle down, work and eat their own bread.

No one can get a mouthful of this “food” by constantly minding someone else’s business. Stop looking for flaws in other people since in doing so you will never see the flaws in yourself, since you will never get a mouthful of anything by picking between another person’s teeth:

1Ti 5:13  Moreover, they learn to be idle, going about from house to house, and not only idle but also gossips and busybodies, speaking what is improper.

Misconception is that intelligence is a genetic endowment

    in Health

We now know this is simply not true. Your brain — every brain — is a work in progress. It is "plastic." By Michael Merzenich, Ph.D. From the day we're born to the day we die, it continuously revises and remodels, improving or slowly declining, as a function of how we use it. If a brain is exercised properly, anyone can grow intelligence, at any age, and potentially by a lot. Or you can just let your brain idle — and watch it slowly, inexorably, go to seed like a sedentary body.

Most older brains, by the way, are neglected. They are therefore slower and less accurate, and do poorer job recording useful information and controlling their owners' actions.

Tune in Wednesday Feb 4   At 7PM for the rest of the story.
